  • Sorry to hear about the job, the right things come along in the end.

I hear you on the tight budget situation. All been a bit of a nightmare this month, I'm hoping July will be a bit easier for us.

    Hang in there.

Well that was an interesting trip back to my old department. My previous departmental manager is going to send me a job I might or might not be interested in and the Administration manager told me she is hoping to retire next year so her job will be up. Basically they want me to take the job my colleague has just retired from with a view I would be able to apply for the admin manager role when the current incumbent retires. What a quandary! Tempting as comfy and could demand top of pay grade, would end up knowing nearly all roles in office so good position to apply if/when time comes............. PS I originally left role due to one “person” (insert own expletive) who I wouldn’t have to deal with and the fact I was bored and wanted more money....

Really not sure. Still checking out the job sites and considering the ones that interest. Luckily in my line of work there are loads and just so long as I have enough to continue with current plans the money side of it doesn’t really bother me. I learnt a long time ago that money isn’t everything and I’d rather be happy and living to a budget than having a big bank account and being miserable.

Just been not very money saving expert and booked some tickets to carfest north. I’ve often fancied it and we were watching Glastonbury highlights this afternoon and well one thing led to another.......We don’t go on holiday at the moment and he loves music and cars (and food!) so it will be something he will remember; one of those experiences rather than things. I’m not telling him and it will be an early start and late night but it should be fun. The emergency fund will be used so no debt incurred and I reckon we could both do with a bit of a lift at the moment. I’ve convinced myself anyway :D

Couple of jobs I’m going to apply for, just wondering if one is too far away but I may as well try, can always say no. Had a really nice day until it was bed time again. He thinks I’m in bed as it seems to be only way to get him to stay in his bed. I’m actually sat on my bed typing this and waiting for his snores; normally takes 5 minutes maximum.

As important as being money saving is, life is also for living! I hope you have a fantastic time!

  • You'll love it! Haven't been myself but know lots of people who have gone with their kids and they have all had a great time. No point in saving all that interest off the mortgage if occasionally you don't treat yourself and enjoy your life. Have a fab time!
  • Just started reading your thread and really impressed with your budgeting! Going to keep following and see how you get on.

Tickets sounds great - got to live a little. You don't get the time back!

Hi everyone and thanks for your support. Just made an overpayment of £200 which means I’ve smashed the 1k mark for this year. Emergency fund stands at £800 but probably won’t see anymore this month as I’ll use my £200 contribution for paying for Carfest. My chicken I roasted for yesterday’s meal has done a Sunday roast, tonight’s giant Yorkshire pudding with left over veggies, gravy and chicken, tomorrow is going to be pasta with mushrooms, chicken and red pesto and I made some chicken couscous salad last night which was today’s lunch and I’ll finish it for lunch tomorrow. I might even squeeze a chicken sandwich out on Wednesday lunch. A bargain for £2.69! I’ve just made two jars (plus a bit in a dish) of gooseberry jam with the berries from my garden. Making jam reminded me of my mum as she used to make it with spare fruit over the summer; bittersweet time this evening :A

Sat watching some Wimbledon highlights, will search Indeed and then off to bed :)
