USA Requiremets

We are travelling as a group of 4 to New York on 25th November & returning 5 days later , our passports expire in January 2020, will we need to renew before travelling? Do we need 6 months valid on our passports & is ESTA all we need or do we also need a visa? TIA

  • Yes I think you need 6 months on your passport after the date you return.

Also remember that the esta is passport related so don't get an esta before you renew your passport

As a matter of fact, the USA is not one of those countries that insists on six months validity after the end of the trip. The passport that you hold is adequate.

If you are able to comply with everything required in the application for ESTA, which is integral to the visa-waiver program, then no visa is required.

Your passports will be valid for the trip and there's no need to renew them early, extra months are no longer added to UK passports for this so value is lost.

For once the travel agent was right!

Concur passport only needs to be valid for duration of visit. Of course if you go again on your new passport you will then also need a new ESTA. So, if you intend to travel again within 2 years it may be more cost effective to renew your passport before seeking the ESTA - you will need to decide and do the sums.

So far as ESTA is concerned only use the USA official site or otherwise you will be scammed. The cost is only $14, no more or less. The link is:

    Official USA CPD ESTA SITE

And make sure you click on all the ? Next to the questions to ensure that you give the answers that they request. In particular, the name question on the ESTA requires ALL first names in your passport not just your first “first” name. Basically the answers on the ESTA application should normally reflect EXACTLY the same information as contained within your passport.

    Enjoy your trip.
