Hi there,

It's my Moms' 70th Birthday approaching in April and I am thinking about buying her a speaker (bluetooth probably).

They have an awful hi-fi which was bought from one of those newspaper supplements, with 2 separate speakers and all you get now is crackle from the speakers and hardly any volume - it has a CD player, turntable and an FM radio.

My Dad is adamant he wants something with a turntable, like an all in one with a CD player, but Currys only sell the sort of thing that they've already got (crap). Anything decent you have to get from a specialist shop such as richer sounds and my Dad won't pay that kind of money.

My Mom says they don't need a turntable and my Dad says they do.

My Dad has an iphone (My Mom's old SE) and my Mom has a Samsung J3 or J6, I can't remember which one. I know they won't pay for a Spotify account, as most smart speakers require this to use Alexa and I know they won't be bothered with Alexa or anything like that.

I have a large amount of music on my itunes, so can transfer lots of music for my Mom to listen to and she could have a free Spotify account if she can tolerate the odd advertisement.

What's your opinions on a good speaker please?

Thanks.

I was under the impression that you need a Spotify premium account for a smart speaker (we have a Sonos one), see above post that my Mom & Dad won't pay for that. They have an Amazon account which I set up and they don't use it or have Prime (see my comment about Spotify premium). Can you use it for just streaming music stored locally on a phone?

    My parents won't use Alexa.

I have 4 Sonos speakers and I don’t have Spotify. I play my iTunes through it

I meant to tell Alexa to play something on a Smart Speaker.

I'm sure, but promoting illegal activity is contrary to the rules of this website.

I've been in the student leftover kit, still on thin budget situation & Richer Sounds actually have quite a range of price points as well as a lot of helpful advice - you might start with speakers & patch on separates gradually?

No connection, just a very happy customer.
