Gas Fires and flues

We would like a gas fire installed in our home, we live in a terrace house and we are therefore short on outside walls! The wall that we would like to place the fire has a porch directly behind it however it is next to a window, my question is whether the flue can go out the side of the fire and through the brickwork under the window instead of directly behind the fire and outside as it usually would? Ideally we would like a balanced flue as it seems more efficient. Any help or guidance appreciated. thank you

We used to have a gas fire with a powered flue. The flu exited the back of the fire, ran through the garage and then the downstairs cloakroom to exit the house about 5-6 metres from the fire. Dunno if they are still available but you can get flueless

Not really, not much noisier than the fan in the Sky box or Video player

You shouldn't have a gas flue coming out next to an opening window. if the wind blows the wrong way, it will blow the carbon monoxide back into the house.

ah yes, I hadn't thought of that but it does make complete sense, thank you. I wonder if there are any options that would work with a gas fire?
