  • Yay mortgage neutral! Very exciting. At least you can savour the feeling and build up excitement for making the big OP next year.
  • Thanks HiddenShadow and MFD - it's certainly a good feeling knowing the money is there, even if we can't get out hands on it !

First full day back teaching today - feeling absolutely shattered tonight. Had a mad start to the day which included an unscheduled drop off at the train station. This made me forget my lunch which meant I had to pay £2.10 for soup and a roll. I can't tell how you annoyed I was. How things change. I wouldn't have battered an eyelid before the start of this MF journey, now I am ranting over an unnecessary £2 spend :rotfl: As the advert of a certain supermarket tells us "every little helps"

  • Well done on the mortgage neutrality :T :T

:rotfl: on the £2 spend. I had to buy a bottle of water the other day - painful! ;)
a penny picker upper. MFW approx 78% to go | FIRE 3 years worth (30% savings rate: now aiming for 40%!) | Normality is a paved road; it's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it | Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible | The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library
  • Thanks PM, creeping ever closer to the goal :T Remembered my lunch today so didn't have to rant this pm.

Transferred some money from savings pot to settle rather large CC bill. Was a planned spend on the card as needed to sort out DS3 with all his bits and pieces for Uni, but still a little bit  as I pressed the "send" button. Whilst I don't begrudge DS3 a penny that we have spent, I can't help thinking how much interest it would have saved me as an OP :rotfl:

DS3 off on Sunday :( Will miss him loads as he has just finished a gap year and has been around most of the time. Note to self, buy an extra pack of tissues  it's going to be an emotional weekend.

  • Oops MIA for a few days. Well a roller coaster here as DS3 went off to Uni. A very emotional day as he was very nervous and unfortunately, almost a week later, is not enjoying it at all. We are doing our best to encourage and support him, but it is very, very hard. Hopefully things will pick up for him soon and he will find some mates. Seems to have been an expensive and very long month. However, have managed to make a £500 OP today as there was little bit of surplus, together with some TCB and TTs. Amazing how it adds up. Have stepped up the meal planning to try and optimise food spends/waste, so will see how it goes. Midway through an energy switch to Sainsbobs energy so hopefully it will carry on smoothly. Beautiful day today, washing on the line and have just cleaned the windows on the inside. Don't know what came over me :rotfl: Happy Friday everyone.

Ahhhh - that's hard for you hearing DS3 has not settled yet :( Is he in halls? - what about his flatmates? Am guessing he's had freshers stuff on this week?

Expensive month here with uni stuff - and car mot & service :(

  • Thanks Greent, it has been such a difficult week for all of us. He is in halls and went off excitedly with his freshers ticket, but his flatmates just aren't very interested in attending any of the events. He went with one other chap to the floor above to say hello, and they actually said to him that they were happy just being in their flat and didn't want to bother with other people. DS3 is quite anxious and a little lacking in confidence but is really trying to mix and integrate, but that really knocked him back. Maternal instincts kicked in big time and I wanted to go and knock their blocks off but I know he has to get through it. Will hopefully pick up next week when lectures start. Just feel so sorry for him. Hey ho, onwards and upwards!

  • Well done on the mortgage neutrality! I think a lot of students find fresher so week hard. I am sure he will find like minded friends when lectures begin.
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

  • Thanks so much SSS and GreenT for your lovely supportive comments. I am sure it will get easier for him, it's just hard knowing they are unhappy!:(

Went with DS1 for a quick drink in a local pub tonight as we were waiting for DS3's piano lesson to finish. Almost £5 for two cokes  At the risk of sounding like my mum, what a crazy price. Made me even more certain than ever that we are following the right path aiming to be MF and to be watching the pennies to achieve it. Even though I know it's important to live a little along the way, and I did have a lovely time with DS1 who will also be back to Uni at the weekend, I still can't get over the price :rotfl:
