    Morrisons More Points Theft

Morrisons More Points Theft 11th Sep 18 at 7:05 PM
First time posting so apologies if I break any protocols...

This is mainly a warning to any users of the Morrisons More scheme.

The background is that I'm a frequent shopper and as such accumulate a fair few points. Instead of receiving the £5 voucher as soon as I hit the 5000 points I have my preferences set to save the vouchers until I request them. I do this as a way of taking care of the big Christmas shop.

Anyway I visited my usual store and noticed my points balance had dropped from 30k+ to roughly 400. I have been in touch with Morrisons and they advise me that the option to release the vouchers was actioned on 06/09/18 on my online account. The same day the vouchers were successfully printed using 'my card' in a store 80 miles from my home address (a store and town I've never been to!) to top things off the vouchers were cashed in later that same day.

Firstly I know that I didn't action the vouchers, nor did I visit the store in question. I've received mixed responses from Morrisons. First being non belief and the second being belief but with a hint of doubt.

Secondly I still have the physical card, it's usually scanned rather than swiped so any scammer could easily duplicate it at a self scan terminal. I can also prove that I wasn't at the store and have told Morrisons to check their CCTV!

They're currently investigating how it happened, but I'm without £30 worth of vouchers and with a potentially compromised card, let alone my personal details from their site. Coincidentally they sent me an email today encouraging me to change my password due to recent security breaches!

If you use the scheme in the same way that I do please check your points balance and/or change your account password!

This has just happened to my wife and I, 90,000 points saved for Christmas nad BOOM all gone. We are not happy about this, we need to get this to go viral as I believe that Morrisons have a Duty of Care to look after our points and not just try to sweep thiese incidences under the carpet with their "it's your fault, you were hacked" attitude. They gave my points away to someone without any checks that it was me they were giving them to! We are not happy and will make life as difficult as we can for them.

Why haven't they instituted 2 step verification like Banks, Google, Microsoft??? Are they IT illiterate or just not caring about their customers? They will lose customer confidence and goodwill by carrying on like this.

Has anyone had any good news about these issues? How did you fight them? Is their a pressure group formed for this?

Lets get this out there in the public domain and make people aware of this issue and force Morrisons to address it.

We have contacted Resolver which we are now going to escalate and Action Fraud, which as yet we have had no reply from. We have kept contacting Morrisons, never getting anywhere they stop replying to you after a while. We told them we would like the CCTV tapes for Action Fraud when they contact them as we were told we are not allowed to see them, but we were told they only keep them for a month, so by the time anybody contacts them they will be deleted. They have no interest in getting any justice the points are gone, they don't care care who spent them.

The same thing happened to be early June. I lost 165,000 points. Used in Nottingham although was in Dorset. Exactly the same thing blaming me. I asked them to prove it wasn't their IT Systems and they hadn't had a data breach. After all they have had staff leak data and other staff sacked for points theft. My systems are security wise tight as I work in IT security, they came back with their IT department trying to give me an explanation why it didn't happen on their system. It was all words and no proof they were not to blame. Any refused to give points, not their problem or fault. They are not part of any ombudsman and they said the head office decision was final. Complete cop out and nowhere to go. How can us small fry fight a big time organisation? Anyway I have stopped shopping their and buying my petrol as has my wife. This is already almost 2.5K we have given to another supermarket but if anyone does find a way to claim these back please post!

Looking at this Facebook page, Morrisons More Points Theft it seems this problem is happening to lots of people.

Can’t see us getting anything back but it is very bizarre that someone could do this when everything else seems secure on my Mac. I hardly ever logged in and only checked my points to see if the 5000 extra points had gone on.
I have lost £40 which I had saved specifically to help us out at Christmas.

    Same As
The exact same thing has just happened to me. 260,000 points stolen!!
In the process of trying to speak to someone about it.
Points claimed online and then spent in a store the same day about 100 miles away from me (St Albans).
Has anyone successfully got their points back?
Are claimed points online sent to an email address?

This is what we were told by Morrisons
The vouchers were used by being loaded onto your more card and the fraudster had downloaded the app and logged in with your details and used them by scanning the card on the app.
They admit you have been a victim of fraud/crime but will not refund you and eventually as in our case they just ignore you.

    Customer Service Contact.
I read with horror the contributors on here who have lost points due to fraud.
Even more disturbing is the fact Morrisons wash their hands of it, even though their system is at fault. So much for keeping data safe !!
Surely the answer should be "Fivers" are only released to the mobile phone number which is held by the customer registered on their system. Changes to mobiles should await confirmation from the card holder.
I have been a Morrisons shopper for as long as Morrisons have been in my area, and obviously collect the "More" points. Last week was the first time I had to make use of Home Delivery due to illness, so obviously the card had to be registered to the "more" account ?
Seems despite contacting Morrisons and being advised to just add e mail address to the More account, the system says "card cannot be found." Have since tried several times to view points on site, with the same result.
I sent e mail to fresh@morrisons.com as per website, but no response, so does anyone know of a better form of communication other than letter ?
As a footnote, the only good thing about Home Delivery is fresh food and milk have longer use by dates, than those found in stores

    Couldn't agree with you more!!
    Hi
I too have had £90 points taken this week and Morrisons response is weak at best. I have reported to Action Fraud and to BBC Watchdog in the hope they can, if enough voices are heard, look into this. Morrisons security question is laughable to be honest and I have said this in an email to them but conveniently they didn't respond to that part of my message. I am screen shotting as many different headlines about this I can and am sending them to David Potts CEO. Let's hope with enough noise, someone will hear us.
Good luck to us all and doom.on the scumbag perpetrators!! May you choke on your ill gotten gains!!

    Totally agree
Yes good luck to everybody in getting some sort of compensation, looking very doubtful I think though ! I am stunned by Morrisons lack of interest and concern, was a long time customer, not anymore, showed no compassion at all, feel so sorry for all of the people who were saving for Christmas, the thieves obviously think this is the best time of year to strike, shameless !!

Same thing happened to me, Morrisons totally indifferent
I had £75 of points used 80 miles from where I live. After trying to speak to someone with an active brain cell at Morrisons I was told that it was my fault as my account had been compromised as my email address was on 'haveIbeenpwned'. When I pointed out that their customer service email address had also been compromised as shown I haveIbeenpwned, I was virtually kicked off of the phone.

Unbelievably inept and disgusting that they are refusing to take responsibility for a weak system that they own.

Not sure which way to proceed with this, any suggestions?
