This year - trial flight at a local airport - it will include his first lesson, and will usually let you fly over your home/area.
Next year - a quality fountain pen, one that'll last a lifetime and signifies the transition from childhood ;-)0 -
How about a gold coin? ie Sovereign or otherwise depending on budget. They often make nice gifts if you buy one from the year he was born or some other significant year and he can keep it forever or sell it if it increases in value!0

If you are still struggling with gifts, I second the gaming mouse/keyboard idea or a new head set if he uses one when he games.
A virtual reality kit would be good depending on budget they can get expensive but I've been told by my game obsessed OH and brother that they are going to be the next big break through in gaming.
Also if he hasn't already got it on DVD/Blu-ray the World of Warcraft DVD/Blu-ray is a small idea.0 -
