need help with resetting the master password for the software security device

Hi guys as you were so helpful before here's another quandry!

When I go into firebox and a site with a password e.g. ebay a box comes up saying:

enter the master password for the software security device

and I cannot remember what the password is!! So now cannot log into anything requiring a password.
I tried to reset it or remove it but that requires knowing the password!! so catch 22.

Any ideas? I am using Internet explorer as another browser which does not require this password.

A friend said to download Googlechrome or other such browser and use that instead. But I am not sure where to get an official version of this.

Any help would be great! thanks

I assume you mean FIREFOX not FIREBOX

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-your-master-password-if-you-forgot-it

NOTE this will remove all your FIREFOX stored passwords and usernames

Or if you do, also keep a secure note of them somewhere separate from your computer.

At work, so don't have a FF installation to hand, but I did get access to ALL of my passwords a few days ago by going to options > security settings and then (IIRC) advanced.

You should get a window showing a list of sites with stored passwords, and there is a checkbox to display passwords. Presto...access to all your FF password in one simple swoop. Amazing how many you'll see there. I had some going back years....

when i try it asks for my password sadly!

You can easily manage the usernames and passwords that Firefox has saved for you.

Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Options.
    Click the Security panel.
Click Saved Logins… and the Password Manager will open.
    fx43SavedLoginsUI
To see the passwords you have saved, click Show Passwords. When you close the window, your passwords will be automatically hidden.

A better lesson would be "Don't forget your master password"

BTW, if you have a master password set, Firefox won't show you any stored passwords without you typing the master password in. Obviously.
