Have grasped the nettle..........now to deal with the ensuing rash. Part The Third ! 16th Aug 11 at 12:00 PM
Part 9 FFS! - when I question do I really need MSE anymore If you dont what to plough through the whole sorry tale just jump to post 1094

Part 8 - and now into 2015 with a bit more determination!

If you are dropping in here for the first time you could skip to post 914 which takes you to plans for 2015! I like to keep all my diary together rather than being a serial new diary starter! I am a slow burner and a bit of a procrastinator but 2014 was a good year for reducing the debt and I feel a bit more in control of things.......onwards and upwards

    Part 7 - reassessment and re-evaluation - starts posts 798
Which is what happens when you realise your debt hasn't decreased by much despite lots effort and your health is threatened.
Part 6 begins on post 586!
There can be found a list of goals for 2014!
    And now part 5..............
My life revolves around an academic calendar so I always feel at this time of the year I get another bite at the cherry of New Year Resolutions.......lucky me So with that in mind I have been running things through my head again so skip through if you wish to last page to see where I got to

Part 4 - would you believe!
As I am purist and like to keep al my thoughts in one place then I am just updating the first post of my rambling diary. Skip to the last page to avoid the being bored! I am not quite sure what happened to 2012...........I have stutterered and stumbled along with 'stuff 'getting in the way and stingers been thrown across my path. The last 3 months have been bl00dy hell - work related bl00dy hell. And yet despite it all the debt has gone down although not as much as I had hoped. New Year resolutions apart I am determined to make more of a dent in this debt thing this year - just need to get over its an odd numbered year and I dont like odd numbers - think its my only wierdy foible So jump forward to post 342 - I have jotted down a few ideas there on how I am going to tackle things in 2013 including colouring squares - oops another wierdy thing

Have grasped the nettle..........now to deal with the ensuing rash. Part The Third for the rest of 2012!!!!!!!!!

Head in the sand for too long so I am off again. If you are new then really you can skip to the last page unless you really want to read my burbles of the last 12 months or so....... Anyway here I am again and rather than start a shiny new thread and deny I was ever going to get myself sorted I thought I would just jump back on here, bring it up to date and hopefully start again without too many 'what ifs' and if onlys'! So jump to post 246 with me and lets get started again

Below is where I started 12 months ago or so and my New Year kick-start......if you are interested only!

I am going to kick-start my DFW diary again, rather than start a new one for 2012. I did have my LBM back in the summer and it was a bit of a slow low energy one !!!8211; all which documented below if you really wanted to wade through it. I really did grasp the nettle - armfuls and I really did make inroads but as many on these forums say it!!!8217;s a roller coaster ride; high and lows with accompanying enthusiasm. A couple of unexpected bills and a bit of a drawn out illness ( I don!!!8217;t do poorly very well) floored me for a while so I took a back seat and decided to lurk and follow and post sometimes on others fascinating journeys, picking up tips and inspiration along the way. I can honestly say we haven!!!8217;t ended the year any worse off!!!8230;..well if I sat down and did the figures I would have a better picture. We have certainly curbed our spending a bit and cut back in some areas. I have got a clearer picture now of how I am going to tackle all this!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;.

2012 I feel will be a strange year for me which I will expand on no doubt as I post more. I am more determined now, than I was back in August to, !!!8216;deal with the rash!!!8217;. Tomorrow I will post my plans, lists, lists of lists and hopes for the new year. I am happy to babble to myself but also happy to listen to others, so pop in if you want.

Just leaves me to say Blwyddyn Newydd Dda pawb. Happy New Year everybody. Here!!!8217;s to 2012

BELOW IS WHERE I STARTED IN AUGUST 2011. Skip to post 96 for the 2012 start

Until yesterday I hadn!!!8217;t had a LBM, more of a low energy dim glow type moment. It!!!8217;s been there in the background, that I really needed to get a grip with the finances. Being in education this is a good time of year the !!!8216;new year!!!8217; in September always feels like a second chance at resolutions
So I found myself here. I joined a couple of !!!8216;fun challenges!!!8217; just to keep me focussed and started reading other people stories. Lots seemed to start with a declutter and that is now well under way !!!8211; the !!!8216;purge!!!8217; has been quite energising I have to say and is a work in progress!
Yesterday had been designated paperwork day and I knew this would be when it hit home just how bad it was. Sitting in the garden with the cats chasing butterflies I sifted through the paper, filed, recycled, shredded and finally reached for the calculator. That was when the 150w bulb switched on. On a gloriously warm day I was suddenly very cold and then felt strangely excited!!!8230;!!!8230;!!!8230;very odd. Last night was not sleepless and this morning I began to worry that I wasn!!!8217;t taking all this seriously enough. Now I feel quite calm. I am sure its because I have finally decided to deal with it. No looking back and slipping into bad habits. There are ways and means to get rid of the rash and I am determined to do it.
I have decided that I will not be putting the figures on here. I will keep my own record and possibly write up the percentage my debt has reduced every now and then. However if you are interested here is a flavour: Including my mortgage, rounded up debt is £38000. Mortgage will be finished in 3 years and is a joint debt with my OH so I will not be including it in my DF efforts. The 150w moment? My CC debts are bigger than the outstanding mortgage that!!!8217;s what made me shudder.
Well, the opening page to my DFD; first step and I feel confident I will add to it when I can and I hope you will pop in now and then to see how things are going

Seems not - only occurs when posting from an Apple device. I was told a workaround but that means turning off predictive text which is not always convenient I guess. Often I go back and change it.but seems not on this post - sorry!

Hope you had a nice lunch

Having a very long overdue break next week - going to see DD1 and play in some real snow Trip paid for with sales at a charity fundraiser this weekend. I have sold a lot of things I have bought to use in my work life. Well, if truth be known, supplied so I can do the what is becoming an increasing thankless task - salaries cut and work load increased - cut backs - uuurgh! So 4 years hopefully to early retirement then a camper van and bum around Europe for a bit - should have done it 20 years ago and thank goodness I am an EU citizen Thats the plan...........debt free of course is pivitol to this plan

I love Spot!fy........bit random but just putting it out there

What a difference a day makes.........bright sunshine, blue skies, dripping icicles and I have crashed - mentally and physically exhausted. Think I got going too soon after flu bug 6 months a go I would have ploughed on through but I am going to give in to it and rest up - taking 3 days off work and will reassess. Going to walk around the garden and think up some new planting schemes and soak up the sunshine then I might have a sleep. Dont want to get into the habit but I need to be well enough to go away next week.............and that is the most important thing for me ATM.

On a more dismal note - car needs 2 new tyres £285

Decided a change of scene was in order so booked flights last minute to go and see DD1 in her alpine abode Real snow and no panic buying, school closures, road closures all buses and trains running ( and free!) no rubbish/litter or people complaining about bin collections - everybody has to take their stuff to a central place. Even met a party of 7/8 years school kids on a day trip walking on a glacier....cant begin to think of the hoops of fire I would have to jump through to get that one off the ground here - have to fill in multiple forms just to walk to library in town I know its a different place. All geared up for the weather and conditions etc but its also a mind set..............anyway enjoyed the trip and now a little rejuvenated and only further resolved to RETIRE EARLY

Attacked greenhouse with a bucket of j*yes fluid,a brush and a hosepipe All sorted now for the new growing season - had become a bit of a dumping ground over winter. What surprised me more than anything was that I decided to do it and just got in with it - no procrastinating or losing enthusiasm half way through - put this wholly down to the fact I am treating myself correctly and not the NHS cheap skate way for my many years undiagnosed condition..........GPs dont know everything

HM chicken korma made just waiting to go and pick up DD2 from her holiday/weekend job......12 hour shifts poor thing but as she says....KERRRCHING

ETA: use my greenhouse to grown cucumbers tomatoes peppers and melons - saves a fortune in the summer!

Emptied the change pots this morning - £128. That is just the £2 pot and the 20p pot. Copper whiskey bottle and 5p tin not ready yet Think the bottle will yield about £55 as it did last time and the 5p tin holds about £35. Also sending box of books to Z!ffit as they had a 15% extra promo on over weekend - hoping for about £15 there:0 Will go as over payments on debt{D

Need to do some card shuffling.........getting tight again as there is very little wriggle room. Contemplating a no fee 4.9% for LOB...........

Whole day in the garden yesterday enjoying the sunshine

Today a bit of reality - money shuffling and getting best deal on car insurance - yeah we bought another car - nothing special it is 14 years old, but a bit of a bargain!

Means DD2 can now have sole use of car and start building up her NCB and has a little bit more independence and responsibility and we dont have to provide a taxi service - TBH that doesnt happen much - she at university but its 'local' to us so she could live at home but has decided she doesnt want to so the deal she is we dont pay any rent and she needs to work during holidays to save for it...same goes for the car - if she wants it with her she needs to look after it and pay towards keeping it on the road - insurance is paid up to December. All part of growing up without having it all on a plate!!!! She is the only student I know who doesn't have a maxed out OD and can save to go to festivals and holidays in summer!! Her friends and house mates never seem to have any money

Well I have bought another car - so we are officially a 3 car family I used money saved to buy it. OH went along with it and became a complete arris over it once I got it home. The idea was he drive it as it is a better car, although older than the one he drives now, and we give his to our DD2. For some reason he changed his mind and said he would never drive it........so DD2 has it now and he isnt on the insurance and was a bit non plussed when I told him. Also told him I paid insurance on "his" car last year so when its up for renewal he can do the donkey work looking for the best deal and paying for it...........vent over

Anyway money is tight as usual so a bit of eating from stores for a couple of weeks will help and will try to put some stuff on Eb*y. Good news that the sunshine is heating up the hot water and lots of free electric

Gosh its been a long time...........haven't even been dipping into other diaries or threads I follow either Just been getting on with RL!

The curve ball that was sent to me earlier in the year finally landed. it passed without incident or drama and was returned happy - my dad came to visit - he is very much the entertainer and story teller and of course the DDs and my OH loved it.........I have heard it all before!!

DDs are in a VERY LONG process of fledgling. DD1 staying in Alps for summer season using her horticultural skills. Came back for a week connected with the above and to swap winter gear ( skiing) for summer gear (climbing). DD2 about to move back from her student house - all of 6 miles away. She finished in May and has been working at a local adrenaline rush attraction since then and will do, apart from a couple of festivals and weeks away, until she is back to university for final year - dont know were that time has gone! she is loving the independence with her own car..........and so am I

OH has gone off for a week to pursue his extreme sport in a competition............no change there.

Me?? Well I have finally had my shoulder fixed only to be felled by really bad knee problems so feel as if my wings have been clipped. However I have appointment this next week and I will not be fobbed off with exercise like I was with shoulder - took almost 10 months to get that fixed Mean while I have been enjoying the garden and the weather. Discovered what mindfulness really means and using it to my advantage both at work and in RL and getting on with the debt busting, life laundry, retirement planning............

Great to hear from you Ig. Well done on dealing with curve ball and parental visits..sounds like you were able to deal with that all very nicely

Climbing and skiing..what a wonderful combination... very jealous. Would be my youngest girl's idea of heaven.. love the Alps, but we always really go to the same places and in winter, only once or twice in the summer. One of my retirement plans is to travel around the whole area more in the camper.

Best of luck with the knees..

Not at the TT by any chance is he??! Can't quite remember but think thats this week

Best of luck with it all

Apparently the ski runs opened up again last week for limited use............there was a lot of snow this winter!

Love it when OH goes away..............because I revert to type..... eating wise...........I am a grazer and have lost 2kg in a week

Had knee looked at today by a 'child' physio..........looked like a scared rabbit and had tiny very cold hands HOWEVER to give him is dues he listened and did a very thorough exam. My problem is I am very flexible and have a high pain threshold so I can be twisted, turned and bent every which way and the pain to me is minimal - but he seemed to understand this and agreed with what I have researched on Dr G**gle as to what the problem is - I didnt suggest it, he came to his own conclusion I also told him I am not putting my life on hold going through exercises for months and not getting anywhere and eventually having a scan an appropriate treatment as in the shoulder problem and he agreed again..........maybe I just frightened him into submission I was in full teacher-I-take-no-cr*p mode I did admit at the end that 6 hours standing at an Ed Sheeran concert had made things worse......and he just said "Yes. But you need to live your life and this does not need to carry on"

Anyway I am hopeful ATM which makes me feel positive about other things - knock on positivity! Just as well as I am cooking for 7 on Friday- curry night with the girl friends - they bring the peripheries and I cook the curries...prep starts tonight!!

In debt busting news - all bills paid, all CCs overpaid and gained £1 that someone left in their trolley lock which will go straight into roadkill pot to pay against a CC at some future point and I off loaded a bag of unwanted clutter to CS.
