What you can earn on income support after expenses?

]What you can earn without it affecting the Income Support depends on circumstances.
When you work out your earnings, you can exclude the first:
  • £5 a week if you’re single with no children
  • £10 a week if you’re claiming as a couple
  • £20 a week if you’re a single parent, disabled or a carer
That was taken from this link

Is this after expenses?

For example could you earn £40 self EMployed with £20 expenses and profit?

Most likely not. You either want to work and be self employed or claim IS.

Yes, you can deduct expenses from your self employment profits.

I don't know what kind of self employment you are considering - would you care to share?

What you need to be aware of is not working 16 hrs a week or more (including hours for admin work etc etc - which is why I asked about what kind of self employment) as you would then not be eligible for IS but could claim working tax credits instead.

Being self employed and claiming means tested benefits is not an easy process because they would need evidence on a regular basis of your income and expenses. You would probably have to be registered as self employed and do a self assessment tax form.

Under what criteria do you claim Income Support?

    I'm a full time carer

But I can also do a small job self employed only an hour or two every week, it pays very well per hour, but high expenses

Certainly for me it's under the allowance

I'd love to see this get past a decision maker, and the lease company!
