Home gym equipment for a small space

Options
I need to do more exercise, I have gone from an active job with brisk long walks every day to a driving based job and only gentle strolls.

I can't join a gym because I don't want to leave my elderly (hence the change from brisk to gentle walks!) dogs alone any more than I have to in order to work and maintain some semblance of a social life!

So, can anybody recommend some decent quality equipment that can be folded, rolled, packed up and left in a corner of the spare room out of the way when not being used, but that is still reasonable quality and doesn't cost the earth? I've had a look at some foldaway treadmills but its very hard to gauge if the cheaper end will just fall apart and the premium end is very pricey indeed! Would love to hear personal experiences.

All I currently have is a yoga mat which fits the bill in terms of space but doesn't do much for my cardiovascular fitness!

If you want to improve your cardio health all you need is yourself! Look up HIIT routines, they dont have to take long at all, get the heart rate up and will do exactly what you need.

You don't actually need any equipment at all, but if you really want to id recommend a small kettlebell, and some resistance bands for strength exercises.

Yeah but I know what I'm like and having a treadmill or similar that I can do a brisk walk or a slow jog on while also watching a film will mean I actually use it!

I much prefer getting my exercise from real world activity/sport etc. as opposed to indoor gym routine because I get bored easily but its not an option at the moment sadly.

Thanks though, you are right just not what I need!

    What about step aerobics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6cg54UoO-A
I have a treadmill , a cycle turbo trainer, some dumb bells but none of these actually simulate hill walking up steep hills very well in preparation for my usual summer Munroe bag effort up in Scotland, ( Suilven and others are the target this year ).
Maybe a simple piece of equipment like the woman is using in this Youtube vid is enough, and certainly would nt take up much space. I m going to give it a try myself
The Turbo trainer is very compact too but would have to bring in the bike to lock the back wheel onto. Rollers are not as compact as a turbo trainer
i think walking on the flat is nt enough but adding some gravity to the walk is a big difference.

a rebounder, I have a bellicon. The legs come off and it can slide under a bed. Read the reviews. Expensive when you can get cheaper but it is a fantastic strong build

We have a Confidence Pro spinning bike bought from Tesco for about £100. Ok it's not professional standard but very good for the money. Can't be folded away but doesn't take up a huge amount of floor space. Also have kettlebells, dumbbells and my husband's favourite resistance bands.

It sounds like you used to exercise by walking the dogs quickly ... and now they can't manage it. What about building/buying a small trolley for them to sit in ... and you can walk as fast as your like and push/pull them round with you?

You can get, for example, bicycle dog trailers. Wouldn't need to be large as they're not in it for long ....

Thinking "small" you could even use a regular metal cage tied on top of a couple of wide skateboards ... pulled with a bit of rope.

The dogs still need some exercise and time out sniffing and socialising even if they can't cover the ground they used to!

I have a £300 fold-up treadmill. I love it, don't get me wrong, I've used it almost every day since 2001 (can't run on it, only walk and jog) and it's holding up well ... but there's no way I'd be folding and unfolding it.
It's too awkward, heavy and a pain to set up again. Mine only gets folded up when I move house.

Ah really? See I did wonder about this, lots say they fold away but look pretty bulky and I did wonder just how realistic it was!

What kind have you got? Its sounds like its serving you well even if its not that easy to store!
