The 1,000 emergency fund challenge. 3rd Oct 14 at 9:35 PM
For the idea for this after listerning to the 'Dave Ramsey Show'.

The idea is to accumulate an emergency fund of 1,000 sitting in a Bank account just in case of emergencies.

You must not leave yourself short in order to reach your goal.

It much be such a great feeling knowing that there's a financial security blanket stashed away. Can't wait to know what that feels like!

Well done at being 96% of the way to DFD, nearly there! That's fantastic

Abundant1972, you now have your number (#25). Welcome to this 'challenge'.

Had to go into Town today, so took in my bag of loose change (I save 1, 2, 5 & 20p's + 2 coins) and chucked it in the coin deposit machine in NatWest, so that's nearly 20 in today. However, I won't be adding it all to the EF as car Tax is due next month.

Thank you for your lovely words Eyebright.... You're right...It IS a sign that things are changing....and the fact that I haven't spent it in the last Week is saying something...usually I just go "Oh well, I've got that extra 30 so I'll spend it"...and I haven't done....at the moment I am only putting in little bits that I can afford....not huge amounts at a time that I know I would have to take back out again....to me, that makes sense

LoL I know what you mean about working nights....I've been doing it for so long that I'm just used to it now....It's difficult though...I have to balance it with the other things that I'm doing...especially as I'm going into a new Phase of becoming a Psychotherapist (soooooooo nearly there with my Qualification!!) so I have to do a mixture of home-work, Psychotherapy Voluntary Work, Course-Work and other Paid Work...so my Life is somewhat hectic...but then again, most people's lives are hectic I guess....

Well Done on your NSD today....Keep it going...you are doing BRILLIANTLY hun!! xXx

Might be getting a rather large Council Tax bill as they never cancelled my CTR when I started back in work, so for the last 3 months I have been paying 24 p/m instead of 116 p/m.

This could be problematic if it were not for the fact that I have been downsizing my overdraft from my account that my wages go into.

Still intend to build up the EF fund though.

    Welcome to the challenge Abundant

I had a couple of unexpected spends yesterday which have meant I haven't had as much as I'd have liked to pop into the EF
So I have just Tilly tidied another 1.02 across.
    EF Total = 27.74 (2.77%)

Ouch Patman! At least through your debt busting you are better prepared to deal with it.

    Welcome to the challenge Abundant

I had a couple of unexpected spends yesterday which have meant I haven't had as much as I'd have liked to pop into the EF
So I have just Tilly tidied another 1.02 across.
    EF Total = 27.74 (2.77%)

Monday boo hiss! Really not feeling work at the moment. On the plus side I got my yearly increment for 20 hours in my pay packet this month, so will have it fully from next month. Yippeee! Not that it amounts to much extra, but it all counts!

    Thanks eyebright.

I do not want to spend on the CC that is for sure, this year will just be a one gift each kinda thing.

I have a rather large family tho.

Oh well we will see how it goes no point stressing over 1 day even if it is Christmas day.

Chris - sorry to hear about your DW accident highlights the importance of having an emergency fund. made me more determined now to get some cash behind me.

Dolly84 - how annoying, nevermind next month.

Counted up my pennies by will overpay my credit cards this week instead. Next week hopefully add to this fund.

    Evening all,

    How is everyone?

Today was a mad day at work, spent 9 of the 12 hour shift cleaning as the European manager is due to visit tommorrow, feeling a little worn out now.

As for me I have a fews days off now to do as I please as im not back in work untill Saturday night, it should be Friday night but booked it off to take DD12 and DS7 to a local fireworks display.

Tomorrow is an early start as I've got a roofer coming @ 8:30am to to quote for me on re-bedding the ridge tiles, replacing some hip tiles and putting a few loose tiles back from where they slipped, once he's been and gone then off to the cinema with the kids to watch, How to train a dragon 2.

I was going to add 2.46 to the EF tonight as we had this left over in this months bugdet, but I've decided to call the shop in the morning to pick up some treats for the movie instead.
YNAB is my new best friend.

Thank you for your lovely words Eyebright.... You're right...It IS a sign that things are changing....and the fact that I haven't spent it in the last Week is saying something...usually I just go "Oh well, I've got that extra 30 so I'll spend it"...and I haven't done....at the moment I am only putting in little bits that I can afford....not huge amounts at a time that I know I would have to take back out again....

Yes I'm finding that the Tilly Tidies are allowing me to increase the EF without really feeling it.

I've moved over another 3.11 tonight, Now at 30.85
