Coffee Gift Basket - more ideas, please! 11th Oct 07 at 11:57 AM
Hello everyone - I'm a long time lurker who's really enjoying reading this site and am bowled over by how many excellent and creative ideas you all seem to come up with!

Inspired by all the wonderful hamper threads, I've decided to put together a coffee themed gift basket for my hard-to-please-and-often-a-bit-grumpy father in law - he's notoriously difficult to buy for, bless, but he *does* like trying new types of coffee. He's gone through various phases - in the past we've bought him filter coffee makers, electric grinders, those plunger style glass coffee makers, and last Christmas my husband and I bought him the Senseo pod as he'd been eyeing one up longingly. I think he used it for about a week before he got bored with it!

So anyway .... it's a safe bet that he'll like anything coffee-related. I bought a lovely brown leather high-sided tray (10 in Tesco last weekend!) and thought I'd fill it with a variety of small packs of different coffees (Whittards, maybe??), and perhaps add some home made coffee fudge or coffee/walnut biscuits wrapped in cellophane bags. Has anyone got any other good ideas for what else to add?

    Thanks

Niptuckfan - cocoa powder. It's for making pretty patterns on the top of the froth in swanky coffee!

On the original thread topic I was in Tescos last night and they've got little boxes of Baileys truffles and Benedicks chocolate minty things for a pound which might be nice?

planning to do something similar to this for my OH for christmas.. but i found this, a recipe for Spicy Mexican Coffee Syrup on a blog i read regularly - you add it to coffee in the same way that you add, say, cinnamon syrup in those posh coffee shops. I'm going to be making some of this as OH loves chilli, but there may be recipes out there for other types of coffee syrup as well.. just a thought.

I thought tesco had little pots of baileys milk mixture you add to the coffee - like those little UHT milks you get in hotels etc. I can't find them online though

can i just say dont buy the chocolate covered coffee beans - they r a bit ming, even for a coffee lover and pretty specialised thing to like really.

I used to work in a coffee shop - how about some syrups and a measuring cup to add them to his coffee oh and biscotti (sp?) If you want some specialised coffee try www.javathehut.co.uk and George who owns it will sort you out with some nice ones (they come in different weights etc)

Gosh, twelve years ago! Doesn't time fly, eh?

The coffee hamper I made was excellent (though don't ask me now after all this time exactly what I put in it). You can be sure that my FIL didn't appreciate it though, or bother to say thank you. He's always been a very grumpy man
