I use Ikea candles and they always leave lots of wax at the bottom so after I've had a few of the same do that, I melt them in a pan and pour them back into one with a wick (bought a cheap pack on ebay).8

I reuse old soap remnants, I don't grate them (waste of time) Microwave them (waste of electricity) I save the remnants and wrap them in an moist face flannel and leave for 24hrs or until pliable then reshape them into a new bar shape, leave to harden and then use the flannel to wash my face with.

I've picked up a couple of new ideas from this, but already do most of them. I make my own soups, chutneys and pickles, mostly from allotment-grown produce, adding veg and fruit that are being dumped by supermarkets. I make Christmas gift tags from last years saved cards. I make draught excluders from old material sewn into a long sausage and stuffed with old tights.6

I'm obviously feeling geeky today, because there's only 5 of these that I don't do!
We don't have a tumble dryer (we use lavender stalks as firelighters!)
I don't decant 'own brand'
don't do the 'tissue box' trick as I have other dividers, and use very few tissues (HM muslin squares for make-up & proper hankies for my nose) - I just keep a box for visitors
I have walk-in showers, but do put a bucket in during the summer for garden watering.
My 'wrapping paper' is legendary - family try to remember whose gift it was last wrapped around!
And actually, I do stick the last bit of soap on to the new bar - that counts IMHO!8 -
"I like the tip about using fluff from the tumble dryer to make fire logs but as I don't have a tumble dryer, what about using fluff etc from the hoover. Bit messy but rubber gloves do the trick and the log burner/fireplace won't mind"
And it keeps rubbish out of landfill.6 -
Loved all the tips and admit I do many of them too. The wrapping paper was making me laugh. My son and daughter mocked for years because they could remember whose present it was on last time. They used to look for their favourites!
Here is a tip which isn't completely thrift based but useful if like me your hands are not what they were : keep the little hanging ribbons cut off from clothes and when you replace a battery, put a piece of ribbon around the battery before inserting it. Then when it needs replacing next time, you can pull it out by the two ribbon ends and save wrecking your nails and finger joints. (Is that showing my age? Well stop looking then!)9 -

Gift tags: before throwing Christmas cards away, examine the front for suitable patterns and cut into shapes, punch a neat hole - et voila!!6 -

Everything from a hoover [bar bits of plastic obviously] can go on a compost heap...if you don't have a fire...Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...6 -
The wrapping that reams of photocopier paper come is is moisture-resistant and ideal for wrapping sandwiches.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.6
