nhs pension contributions

hello

can someone please tell me if contributions to the nhs pension scheme are made gross, ie without tax relief?

The usual position is that you receive the tax relief automatically by the contribution reducing the NHS pay which is subject to tax.

For example (monthly figures)

Salary 3,000
NHS pension contribution 270
Taxable salary 2,730

It is the taxable salary total for the year which ends up being included on your P60.

NHS Pension Scheme members will receive tax relief on their pension contributions up to a certain amount. This is because contributions are taken from pay before tax is taken off, therefore contributions reduce the amount of pay subject to tax.

This is known as the "net pay" arrangement - it's fine if you earn enough to actually pay tax but rough on those who don't.

As above unless you are considering purchasing NHS Additional Pension as a lump sum purchase in which case you will need to contact HMRC to claim it back

Not sure what you mean but to try to clarify my post ; the contribution qualifies but the individual contributor may not if they have already made pension contributions up to the level of their earnings .....
