Oaths of RN/RM and Police (various)

Quiet day for me... but got me wondering.

The RN (men AND officers ?) do not have to swear an oath of allegiance - true ?

The RMs also do not ?

City (Corporation) of London (red/white squares) swear a different oath ? (to the Corporation), than other Police Constables/officers - true (and what is it).

Have looked in all the normal places but info is contradictory, or 'seems' to have changed

Just wondering... please

    wrong place ?

    Seems there should be a board for 'general Qs/what if..., etc'

    Most interested in the City of London Police aspect

    According to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oath_of_Allegiance_(United_Kingdom) it is now only RN officers who don't swear an oath. All other members are required to swear an oath

    Oath of allegiance.
    Whilst the signed declaration made at enlistment is a legal matter, the oath of allegiance has an educational, symbolic and solemn purpose. The swearing may be conducted during the first day of training or if considered more appropriate, at another suitable point, at the convenience of the single-Service. Swearing the oath of allegiance is a requirement of the Services for service in Her Majesty’s forces (this is a new provision for the RN because people offering to enter RN service have historically not sworn an oath of allegiance). Swearing the oath of allegiance is viewed as a mark of the individual’s loyalty to the Crown and therefore, their willingness faithfully to serve as a member of the armed forces.

    Saw that. Seems ? to be so... but why not officers.

    What about RMs (come under Army regs ????)

    Really interested in C/C of L Police

    As it says in the article
    Until recently no oath of allegiance was sworn by members of the Royal Navy, which is not maintained under an Act of Parliament but by the royal prerogative. This is still the case for Officers as, by nature of the Navy's authority deriving from the Crown and not Parliament, the loyalty of Naval Officers to the Sovereign is taken for granted
    But does not apply to RM officers. It is only the Royal Navy itself that has authority derived from the Crown.

    The regs are a Joint Service Publication so apply to all arms of the Forces.
