    Get a grip ! 5th Feb 17 at 11:27 AM
    .....25/11/2018 ......
I have decided to update as its been ages since I started this thread and so much has changed including my priorities.....

We gained a puppy after starting this thread and although she is a handful she has given me something to focus on and to get up for each day.

DS split from one long-term gf and is now several months into a new relationship and started a new job and seems very happy.

Sadly DM passed away suddenly this year and I miss her every day. Then DF was seriously ill in hospital with sepsis and almost died but thankfully he found the strength to pull through and is making a full recovery physically. We are supporting one another emotionally as a family.

I started this thread with the focus on saving some money. That hasn't happened and I have ended up with some debt on a 0% credit card but it is being paid off as planned and I am still managing to pay all bills and still have some money to spend with friends. I am planning to start saving for an emergency fund in the new year 2019.

I put my tree up today

Also bought a tin of toffee shortbread for DF 5 from M&S. DS's gf brought a tin round last week and they are delish I also get DF an annual subscription to a magazine which he has said he would like to continue, so that will be for his birthday and xmas and the biscuits will be something he can open on Christmas day.

I also arranged to see an old school friend while I'm back up North.

Its been raining all day but I did 2 dog walks and a half load of washing which is drying on airers. The heating was off all day as its quite mild but I put the timer to come on at 6pm and 9pm for 15 minutes each time to keep the evening chill away and dry off the washing.

Tomorrow is the girls xmas lunch and I am really looking forward to it. We are going to a friends at 12 for pre-meal drinks then getting a taxi to the venue where we have a 3 course meal and a glass of prosecco, with coffee and mince pies after and live music for 28 which I have already paid for. I have 30 set aside from last month for drinks & taxi's. I won't be drinking much as I have to be up at 5am on Monday morning for work, but I don't drink much these days so it won't be missed.

I had a look for new clothes on everything 5 today but didn't buy anything. I have hunted through my wardrobe and found something to wear tomorrow and a handbag and new-ish boots. I also found a glittery top I had forgotton about which will do for Christmas.

I hope the rain stops tomorrow.

We had a great time on Sunday and lunch was lovely. I spent 1.50 on a taxi and 5 towards a shared bottle of prosecco. We had a free glass of prosecco on arrival and coffee and mince pies after. There were 2 singers and quite a bit of dancing I didn't drink much but they did provide a free glass of water. One of the girls had driven to the venue and offered me a lift home so I didn't spend much

I got some shopping yesterday in aldi and put 10 petrol in the car. I only have 3 weeks at work this month so I've budgeted 30 for fuel.

Today I used the mcD hack and got a big mac and fries for 1.99, paid for out of my entertainment budget. The Labrador wrapping paper from bay of E has arrived and it is really cute. I am going Christmas shopping on Saturday with a friend and we are going to get a cheap lunch in the Chinese tea bar in town.

Had a lovely day yesterday visiting a friend in her new home. She made homemade soup and crusty bread for lunch yum ! So we saved on cost of a meal out and I took her a Christmas card so saved the cost of a stamp too

My other friend had called off our shopping trip today as she is feeling unwell. It's blowing a gale here this morning. The dog was a bit spooked when she went out in the garden as stuff is blowing about. She's had breakfast and is snoozing so I washed the kitchen floor and left it to dry and am now back in bed.

Plans for today - hoover downstairs and clean up mud spatters from yesterday's mud fest dog walk. Wash bath towels - hopefully it will stay dry out long enough to dry them on the line in this wind. Also need to wash dog towels after lots of wet and muddy dog walks this week. I ordered a pair of wellies from asda online for 12.99 yesterday as I am fed up of wet feet. Free delivery to store they should be here next week. Hoping for a NSD today !

Hope you are feeling better soon SW ! I have been awake half the night with a raging sore throat. I've fed the dog and taken some paracetamoi and found a throat spray so I am going to try and get a bit more sleep once I've drunk my tea.

It was a lovely morning here yesterday, even a bit of sun made an appearance. I took the dog for a walk on the common which was thankfully less muddy that the field by the park ! I got towels hung out for an hour to blow on the line before it started raining and they finished off on airers.

I did some cleaning and hoovering and mopped the kitchen floor. I also got some car insurance quotes but I think I have left it a bit late as they are coming out more expensive that my renewal quote. I think I will phone my current provider and see if I can haggle them down a bit. To be fair it has only gone up 2 since last year, but I may add breakdown cover if I can get a good deal.

All food was from stores yesterday. DS and his gf are here today so we will have a fry up later. I have some chicken breasts to use up so will make something with them for dinner.

Plans for today - walk the dog later this morning, more washing & write Christmas cards.

Hi - good job I have plenty of time on my hands because you can get lost reading these threads! I've accumulated quite a lot of debt over the last 3 -4 years - partly because I was too busy trying to dig myself out of the hole to get proper advice. I don't think people understand - there's so much judgement out there. It's not as if I spent anything on anything other than the basics.

I feel naked with no savings and it worries me beyond belief. I hope to be able to join a credit Union and save 25 a month next year via a direct debit.
I might start it this month as I have no extravagant plans for Christmas - I might even do something completely and volunteer to help with Christmas Lunches for other people -transport dependant.
If tha' brexit, tha' pays for it.

Welcome Scaredforthefuture most of the people who regularly post on this board are lovely and supportive but you may get the odd one trolling but we just mostly ignore them and they usually go away.

It is scary not having savings. I do have credit cards if an absolute emergency cropped up but I want to get an emergency fund built up again in the new year too.

Yesterday I used the 8 coop vouchers and bought chocolate stocking fillers for DS. Now I have to try not to eat them

Don't think it will be a problem today as I can hardly swallow. I have a very sore throat and no voice. Off to the GP later. Just managing sips of cold water at the moment

I am ok thanks SW, its an infection and Dr has taken swabs and given me antibiotics. Felt lousy today and have been off work and laid down most of the day, but am hoping to be well enough to go back tomorrow.

I renewed my car insurance today and paid in full from monthly savings. I didn't add breakdown cover as they wanted 80 !! I can get it much cheaper elsewhere. I am currently with green flag and its not due for renewal until end of Jan so I will shop around then.

Made some soup for lunch, potato carrot & onion was nice and soothing on my sore throat. Tonight we had pie and chips from the freezer with veg and gravy.

I also ordered some DVD and CD for Christmas presents tonight paid for from Christmas savings and got free delivery as the order was over 20.

I called off in town on the way home from work today and got 2 packs of sugar free tunes 1, nivea face cream 1 and some more Christmas cards and stamps. The stamps cost more than the cards ! 24 x 2nd class = 13.92. 24 x 1st class = 16.08 total saving 2.16. I just need to write and post the blooming things now !

After walking the dog I couldn't get warm so I had a bath, first one in over a year I usually have cheaper showers. My sore throat has turned into a stinking head and sinus cold so I am going to have an early night. At least its Friday tomorrow

    Thank goodness its the weekend

I collected my wellies from asda yesterday and they are fab Lovely and comfy and I am looking forward to dry feet when walking the dog in the rain forecast later today ! Cost 12.50.

Its DS's girlfriends birthday next week, I am thinking of getting her a bottle of asti. I have checked online and the cheapest is 6.50 at morresons. I may be able to get a special label with her name on from E bay if I can get it posted/delivered on time. I also need to drive to her favourite seaside as I have decided to get her a gift voucher for her favourite food place for Christmas 20.

I am also planning on making some pots'o'gold for them both for xmas. I have 2 baubles that open up and you can fill them with whatever you choose. I bought them a few years ago and have never used them. I am going to put in a few ferrerro rocher (1 land) and lindt Christmas teddies/reindeer & werthers original and any other gold coloured sweets I can find cheap and a scratch card each.

I cant believe this time next week I will be heading up north and the dog will have gone on her holidays with DS & gf. Christmas still feels like ages away.

Today I will walk the dog and write my Christmas cards along with any housework / washing I can manage. I am feeling much better and the antibiotics seem to be working. Just feels like a cold now and I look very much like Rudolf with my red nose !

I am going to try and feed us from the freezer / stores this week. I have made a list of what we have and I have put a joint of pork into the slow cooker for pulled pork later, either as a "roast" dinner or with wraps & salad, home made coleslaw & jar of gherkins I bought last week, and maybe chips and mini corn on the cob from freezer.
