Thanks for your reply,we have unlimited broadband it's more about security.

I am not very techie,do you mean you can have a router that several providers can use at the same time,if so I thought they all send their own routers when you join them.I thought it was one phone line to one broadband provider.

We have just left BT and switch to sky tomorrow.
That poster is suggesting you buy a router that allows you to have two separate wi-fi networks - one for your household and one for your guests. The routers supplied by ISPs won't do this so if you wanted to go that route then you would have to buy one yourself.

You don't need a separate line and internet connection. You can have two separate wifi networks which are both using the same internet connection but keep the traffic completely separate. You will just need to replace the standard router that Sky send you with a better one that supports this "guest network" feature.

The other thing that the OP will have to do is wrestle the Sky login out of the Sky supplied router.

You can plug a wifi access point with its own wifi password into one of the ethernet ports on a Sky router.

You can also get specific gateways for providing guest wifi access

Unless you turn off the wi-fi in the Sky router and just use it as a modem. You can connect a different router to it by wire for the wi-fi.

You can plug a wifi access point with its own wifi password into one of the ethernet ports on a Sky router.

You could even configure your old BT router it as the guest's Access Point (AP) by pluging it into the new Sky hub (as OM has described above). Zero cost - as BT don't demand it be returned once out of contract .

See here (also google: 'router as access point' for more info).

If you get stuck just ask on here.
