Trackpad issued with Acer laptop

Hi guys

I'm having some issued with my track-pad on my Acer laptop, it is an Aspire E 15. From time to time, I;m using the track-pad when the cursor gets completely stuck and I can't do anything to sort this out apart from switching off.

I've downloaded the latest drivers and changed the track-pad settings but still happening.

Any advice on how to fix this?

    plug in a mouse, to make sure it is the pad, and not frozen computer?. the caps lock light could be another way to sometimes test it out if frozen, but not a 100% reliable way.

    So you have already installed new drivers, works with a mouse, it is probably the pad, but there has been historically some obscure software interactions between applications and peripherals - especially dlls being overwritten - (those days have probably gone)

    new pad, which could mean new top case as some pads are plastic moulded in place.

    Sure you sure it is not the computer that is freezing, as Acer has a bad reputation for this - just search the web.

    i had exactly the same issue with an acer E15 laptop. the trackpad would intermittently stop working. it got to the stage i could never work with spreadsheets as highlighting cells etc became very hit or miss. i ended up buying a logitech cordless mouse for £10 and now i'm used to that, much prefer it even to a 'working correctly' tackpad.

    Thanks mate, have just purchased a wireless mouse so will see how that does.

    Hi guys

    Spoke too soon, maybe - the wireless mouse has been working well but the cursor just got stuck again so had to power off as unable to use task manager.

    Anything else I could do? Time for a replacement?

    ftom the tone of your post, I am still not sure if your laptop is freezing, or it is a mouse issue.

    When the mouse freezes the keyboard should still work as in win key + E opens Explorer, win key + R opens the run command, caps, scroll and mum lock lights work? You have unplugged the mouse and put it back in?

    I think your computer may be freezing? Have a look on youtube, it sill possibly show you how to open your model up and blow out the crud. However Acer have a long history of freezing motherboards which some people have fixed by re-balling the cpu and gpu. Replacing the gpu and adding a larger heatsink.

    I think you are correct in that it is the laptop which is freezing. I have a friend who I will speak with as I think he knows a IT tech who can probably check this for me.

    There is only so much you can do on a laptop before it cost big money. A motherboard will cost about as much as a new laptop....unless you buy on ebay.

    make sure that fan is both (1) turning (2) all clean, but this will possibly need disassembly.

    if you do this and it still freezes, I would think motherboard, as Acer are renown for bad joints and insufficient heat sink. you want to install hwinfo, write down the temps every minute till it fails and time it too. Put it in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge. Immediately after taking it out test and time it and of it works longer then a bad joint and probably needs reballing by a specialist company, and some will also put in a new GPU as your might be partially cooked.

    make sure the right length of screw goes in the correct holes.
