:j Hi, can anyone advise on the cheapest way to get to Dublin from the North West? Ideally to take a car and two passengers. Ferry companies seem very expensive. Taking mum who's nearly 80 so needs to be as easy as possible! Or would it be better to fly and book a car on the other side? Thanks

You have already identified the only two ways to travel. Both ferry companies have a 25% discount offer on at the moment so they are very unlikely to be cheaper at any other time. Ryanair flies from Liverpool and Manchester but the luggage isn't cheap and neither is car hire at Dublin Airport. The benefit of taking your car is you simply load it up and go so it can be less hassle than flying but if the Irish Sea is rough, three and a half hours can seem a long time!0

Depends on what you want to do when getting to Dublin really. What are your plans? Is flying an option etc?
Then some of us may be able to help you out with a bit more information.0 -
You could also consider Stranraer to Larne for a shorter ferry journey. It really depends how far north in the north-west you are whether this is a sensible route. If you are in Carlisle it could be, if in Manchester probably not.0

When did Ireland rejoin the UK..?0

Parts of the island of Ireland are part of the UK which comprises more than England!!
Ireland left the rest of what we now call Britain millions of years ago if I remember my geology correctly.
Eire is not part of the UK so yes correctly Dublin does not conform to the forum area title.
But as already pointed out in another post you can travel uk to uk and never leave it to get to Ireland.
Little Englander? :eek:0
