Considering Getting Married Abroad

I have spoken to my family and they are happy with a party when we get home and it's just our parents and children that will be at the ceremony.
It is the UK business that are the ones blackmailing, charging ridiculous prices just because it's a wedding. Not only that, if our wedding was in this country I would feel more like I am blackmailing them to come as they have less of an excuse to get out of it.
The cost of getting wed in the UK is ridiculous unless you scrimp to the point it's embarrassing and not memorable for my fianc!.
We want a memorable wedding, low cost, parents and children there and then a party for all who want to come when we return home.
I cannot understand why people get suckered into spending over the odds on getting wed in this country paying. I will not be blackmailed into it! I nearly did this year but I feel like a right mug now lol
tbh weddings are a case of each to his & her own - cost is not always a factor in memorability
I've had fun at a low key weddings & weddings where the cost was practically a deposit on a nice size house....with greater fun being had at the former.0 -

If your previous employment hadn't ended would you now be feeling that you had been 'blackmailed', had been suckered into paying ridiculous prices?
I think you'd be going full-steam ahead with the plans you'd already made.
FWIW, nobody needs to spend 'ridiculous' money or pay over the odds to get married in this country.0 -
I had a memorable, low cost wedding in this country. To do that, I had to do a lot of research to find the right venue and book it directly. You seem to want your cake and eat it, as a great deal, cheap, but with security that nothing will go wrong. Your expectations are not realistic. The cheapest weddings are those you arrange yourself. The more the research, the lower the risk.0

There's an Irish woman who organises weddings in Lamzarote. They have a website and Facebook page called (weddings in Lanzarote). You could have a look their photos look fab.
I went to my aunts wedding in Thailand and it was a long way and big expense ! But worth every single penny ! It was more than a wedding it was an experience ! And I find the one who go are the ones who care for you the most, which makes it special to be surrounded by a good bunch. Obviously within reason financially !
If I knew then what I know now, I 100% would have not got married here and went abroad.
My friend also went to Vegas with four of their closest friend and surprised everyone ! They looked great and arranged it all when the got there.0 -
OP, you're planning a wedding - and abroad, to boot - when you've posted elsewhere that you can't afford your rent?

Considering that you are struggling to pay your rent, an overseas marriage might not be advisable.
Tone down your plans and get the rent under control.0 -
According to your other posts you don't have enough cash for food or heating so where is the cash for the wedding coming from?0

|As above, how can you afford a wedding if you can't afford rent heating and food ?0

Or.. friends will come at the sacrifice of their own holiday.
It's just a method of pushing cost onto your guests because of your own desire to have a 'memorable' wedding.
Not at all.
Nobody is forcing guests to attend.
Suggest you keep it closest family or just the two of you, and perhaps do an informal party after back at home.0 -
Can you just Google some of the big name hotels where you'd like to go, then contact them to see if they have a planner in house.
I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!0
