The company they refer to is an insurance company, you'll need to think back to try to remember if you've ever taken out any car/van insurance and cancelled it before it's due for renewal.

Your first step is to send them a 'prove it' letter, there's one here; https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2607247 Wait to see what they come back with. Don't worry about the letter too much, it's just saying "if" we take you to court the fees are..., they aren't saying they will take you to court. Send them the prove it letter, don't sign it though.
  • Thanks for your response looked back and think it’s off cancelled car insurance that I paid a massive deposit on never known any one owe money of cancelling car insurance. Found a article saying why not to pay them all about how the my forge court letters etc do you think this a step to take ?

No, forget about whimsical magic solutions, there is a process to follow now, as a first step, just send the "provit" letter and see what they come back to you with.

  • If you cancel car insurance you’re still liable for the remainder of the term to pay.

    I’m guessing you didn’t
  • Tried to bump my premium up to £600 a month without any notice don’t think you would pay the rest if they were asking for that
  • Would emailing them the letter be ok ?

You still have to cancel things the right way, even if the other party's being unreasonable, you can't just stop a direct debit and hope they take the hint.

Do you really want this collections company to know your email address? Through the post (and to be signed for) is the best way.
  • You won’t have a leg to stand on then.

The debt stands as you refused to pay something you were contractually obliged to.

This is a formal pre-action protocol letter and you must now stick to the process.

and she recommends that the safe choice is to tick Box C and ask for as much as possible in Box H. Use the reply envelope to send it back, keep a copy and send it signed for.

Now what you would ask for in an insurance debt is debatable. The helpful list says

A copy of the written contract for the debt; A full statement of account, including details of all interest and charges included on the outstanding balance of the debt, explaining how they have been calculated, and any payments already made toward the debt; a calculation of the interest claimed; the annual or daily rate of interest; a description of the nature and amount of any administrative charges included in the debt; a copy of the notice of assignment of the debt

I'd ask for the lot and see what comes back.

Should you get an actual claim form, as seems likely, you would get best help from
