New housemate has a pet approved by landlord in 'no pets allowed'

  • I had a housemate who had a pet lizard that I didn't know about until after months of living with her. I wish I'd known sooner as it was really cute and I wanted to hold it! It lived in a cage in her bedroom.
Is the rabbit just going to live in the roommates bedroom or be brought into the rest of the house? Could you compromise? Explain your allergy and that if the rabbit wanders around in the rest of the house, could that housemate do a quick hoover afterwards?
  • I'd have to ask what you want the outcome to be. On one hand you state that you love animals, then you claim your asthma is triggered by rabbit fur.

Er, those two are not contradictory at all!

I suppose in future, the OP will have to confirm before moving in that the house will remain pet free and inform the landlord of their allergy so that hopefully this won't crop up again. Ideally they could try and get a self contained place but I realise in London this can be stupidly expensive.

I have no pets allowed, but in reality I do let people keep dogs / cats / rabbits etc - one my tenants keeps snakes and tarantulas.

I did draw the line at someone wanting to rent with 6 staffies - and that was out of consideration for the neighbours.
  • Er, those two are not contradictory at all!

Er, I haven't said they are. That is what you have inferred. This is why I asked what the OP wants the outcome to be.
