Has anyone ever done this? How did it go?

2. How often will assessments take place? I.e yearly?

3. Can your companion take notes?

4. The claimant is young and throughout life we have focussed on abilities rather than pointed out extra support given. Does anyone have any tips for helping the person prepare? They need to answer independently and the person is quite shy.

5. Can the claimant take their appointee and a companion?

6. Any ideas of what type of movements or activities a partially sighted person would be asked to do? The person can read normal size print but slowly and it can cause discomfort.

7. Can the claimant ask to see the further information sent in by doctor and teacher?

1. You are not allowed to see what's been written during the assessment. However, once the assessment report has been returned to DWP you can ring and request a copy of that to be sent to you. This will give you some idea what the decision is likely to be as they mostly go with the report.


2. Reviews are done 1 year before the award is due to end. How often this happens depends on the length of the award, if you're awarded.


3. Yes, notes can be taken/written.


4. If the person has an appointee then the appointee will be able to answer all the questions during the assessment. Remember PIP is about how your conditions affect you and not about a diagnosis.



5. Yes a companion can attend. If the claimant has an appointee then the appointee must attend the assessment with the claimant.



6. What activities you're asked to do totally depends on the HCP and the reasons for your claim.



7. They very rarely ask for evidence from anyone. The onus is on the claimant to make sure they send in evidence to support their claim.
