2 Yr old Samsung swollen battery

I bought a Samsung mobile from John Lewis just over 2 years ago.
The battery became very unreliable so I got a new phone.
I always find 2yrs seems to be the threshold for needing a new one.
However, I have just noticed that the battery has swollen in the old phone.
I always keep the old one as a back up and still use them for certain things.
My question is what would be the fair resolution of this situation?
Do I contact John Lewis or Samsung?
Neither are likely to repair it for free, but given you can't remove the battery, it is currently dangerous I would think.
I don't really want to spend money on an old phone, but it isn't fair that it should be unusable after just 2 years.
What are my rights, and what would it be fair to expect?
Thanks

After two years, nothing. Unless you can prove there was an inherent fault with the battery. You can pay for an independent inspection and if that suggests there is an inherent fault, you have a case.0
-
As above, after 6 months it is your responsibility to prove that the fault was present at the time of purchase.
After that, the shop will choose whether to repair, replace (second hand) or refund (partially - depending on age of phone).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Probable no go as batterys are classed as consumables anyway .
OP says
<I always find 2yrs seems to be the threshold for needing a new one. >
Followed by
< but it isn't fair that it should be unusable after just 2 years.>
Note battery life can be two or even 5 years +.0 -
Recycle it and stop looking for compensation for everything.0

Colin-maybe.
We'll thanks for the unnecessarily rude reply.
I'm not looking for compensation and say nothing of the sort in my post.
I have an old Blackberry with a swollen battery, but you can remove the battery and keep the phone.
Throwing an entire phone away when it cost hundreds seems a bit much.
Perhaps I pay for a battery but they fit it for free?
My post just asks what is fair.
You can't ask anything on this forum anymore without a nasty reply..0 -

Nice faux outrage there. There is of course nothing 'rude' about my reply at all.My question is what would be the fair resolution of this situation? What are my rights, and what would it be fair to expect?Perhaps I pay for a battery but they fit it for free?
Not looking for compensation then? Compensation doesn't necessarily mean cash in hand by the way (the fact that I have to explain that is sad in itself).0 -
Yes rude.
You didn't say "stop looking for compensation"
You said "stop looking for compensation for everything"
Sad I have to point that out.
But mostly sad that this is what results when asking a question on a forum.0 -
Agreed it was rude0

You own the phone either buy a battery and search Ifixit .
Or pay a mobile repair shop to replace battery .0 -
