  • Re Shoppers Discount

I was told that when I bought a ticket from Ryanair, "someone" completed their subscription ??

They said they had sent me an email, and I had 30 days to cancel. I didn't see the email, as it may well have gone directly into my Junk box....which I delete without reading.

There is a valid reason why the email would go into your junk mail, aside from the obvious that it is indeed "junk", its a wonderful convenience that it should end up there, this way they can safely claim "you were sent an email".

  • I've just had the same thing happen to me, I logged into my online banking and there was a direct debit for £10 for shopper discounts! I've managed to cancel and they've told me they are processing my refund (how generous of them!!). However because they're such a dubious organisation, I was wondering if anyone had had any problems in receiving it or if it had hopefully been pretty straightfoward?

    Thanks,

    Kim
  • I also have found £10.00 taken out of my credit card account which I did not authorise, I think also bought tickets from Ticketmaster in December and that's how I got caught by the time I realised they had taken two sums of £10 out of the account. After looking up on the internet and finding all the threads on here I have started the process of trying to cancel the so called membership. I have tried to phone but no answer so have e-mailed the customer service address and demanded they cancel the membership, so far I have had no answer, how long do they usually take to answer? I am getting angry and impatient now perhaps I will have to e-mail again and threaten with Citizens Advice etc. its very frustrating, why doesn't Martin Lewis get on their case and help us all out??

    HOW TO CANCEL!!
I recently booked tickets home from the trainline.com, and I too fell into the trap!!
I clicked the link to see what it was all about... I may have registered, but never did it say anything about a membership cost- £10.00 a month apparently!!
Anyway, stumbling across this forum, I decided to do a little research.
I went straight to the shopper discounts and rewards site to find out how to cancel my membership... if you log in, then click the 'contact us' tab, there's a highlighted link: 'Click on this link to access our online benefit cancel centre'
which I did- then scroll to the bottom of the page to select 'confirm membership cancellation'. You'll get an e-mail confirming this... then, there's an option on the website to claim a refund for the last (suspicious, and most likely illegal) charge from your account.
Straight away, with no hesitation, they send an e-mail telling you that the £10.00 will be paid back into the account from which it was originally taken within 10 working days.
I'm yet to find out whether it happens or not, but if you ask me, the fact that they return money with no questions asked rises very suspicious thoughts.
they have, however, sent my £15 cheque (which i'll see if it is able to be paid in ok)
as well as promised a £10 refund. Personally, I think they DO pay out these rewards... but just conveniently forget to say anything about the monthly costs from our side... VERY dodgey! be careful, cause it's easy to click on it and, unbeknownst to you, 'agree' to pay a stupid membership cost to a site that you're most likely never to visit again!!

As it turned out, the refund and cheque were paid in without any problems... i ended up with £5.00 profit... which kinda compensates for the hastle :)
  • I too have been conned into this false hood. Having bought my wife something for Christmas off Easylife, I was then sent 2 e mails saying I could download 2 free vouchers for £15 towards my next purchase. What they didn't say was that as soon as you tick the box to download you automatically agree to sign up to a £10 a month contract with Shoppers Discount and My Time Rewards.
    Very Clever.
Having checked my statement and finding the items I immediately cancelled and asked for a refund but I'm still waiting.
I've contacted Trading Standards and Data Protection but the message coming back is that because I ticked the box I agreed to the contract and as such my credit card company cannot stop the money from been paid.
I find it hard to put into words my feelings but will say I feel that not only has a back up system let me and everyone else down but that the law can allow this activity to go on unpunished when passing on peoples credit card details to other companies.
Surely these people must be making thousands of pounds from unsuspecting people.
The sooner this can be stopped the better
Why not e mail all your friends and tell them to Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Just an update on my previous entry to this thread. i emailed Shopper discount as soon as I found out what they were up to. I demanded my 'membership' be cancelled immediately and I wanted an immediate refund. I also said I would be contacting Ticketmaster - who should be ashamed of themselves for being linked with this scam, and also threatened to go to trading standards.
    Got no response.
Emailed them again yesterday with a copy of the original email and said that if i did not get a reply I would be straight on to Trading standards.
Finally got an email from them today to tell me my membership has been cancelled and I would be getting my £10 back.
So my advice is to push and push. They know damn well they are in the wrong.
I do think that Martin should do some kind of expose on this company. I dread to think how many people never check their credit card statement and are unwittingly handing money over to this company every month! It is daylight robbery

I was also scammed by this - noticed a monthly £10 charge on my credit card bill. Turns out it was related to a Ticketmaster booking a few months back - I had clicked on a link for a £15 discount voucher off my next booking. seems then my details were then passed to Shoppers Discounts & Rewards and I unwittingly became a member.

Followed the advice from Dave Danger (posted on this forum on 16-4-2008) and called 0808 2341539 and spoke to a young guy. He argued that it is made clear that that a monthly charge will be made if no cancellation is recieved after 30 days and that I would have received e-mails. I told them that unfortunately these e-mails had been marked as 'junk' by hotmail, so had only just seen them in my spam folder it also can't be that clear as looking at forums like this, I had found lots of other people had unwittingly fallen foul of their 'clear membership' terms. That seemed to do the job and they have agreed to cancel my membership and to refund the previous months payments - have recieved an e-mail confirming this, so lets hope that they honour this. Thanks to DaveDanger and everyone else for flagging up this one and posting the advice. :T

I placed an online order with Pizza Hut last week and when I had completed the order I was directed to shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk to claim a £15 cashback on my next Pizza Hut purchase. While looking on their site I noticed they give cashback for Esure, went to sort it out today and had to find my registration e-mail for shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk and scrolling right to the bottom noticed the membership fee information. I logged into their site and they already had my credit card details which can only have been passed to them by Pizza Hut. This is outrageous, fortunately I found it quickly and have cancelled my membership online before being charged anything. I am now going to e-mail Pizza Hut and ask them how they think being associated with this company will affect their reputation.

To my horror, I've just found the same amount from shoppers discounts on my bank recent transactions too.... I've just done what JB03 talked through and have also received an email confirming cancellation and refund within the next 10 days.

JB03, it would be great if you'd keep us posted on whether you've received your refund yet...

I'll do the same just in case they're still tryin to con us all....
