New Year, New Plans and Hopes

  • I am aiming to get back to living again, after almost three years, mourning and then coming to terms with living life as a single person, the first time ever, since birth 69 years ago. Those stages have come and gone and I now live and cope as a single

So 2018 needs to be the next stage, when I take a gigantic step forward, when I buy a new home. In the meantime I am only going to concentrate on keeping up to date with house maintenance, doing much myself and not letting anything get into disrepair. Cleaning too, the `hidden` things like light switches and high ceiling corners. I am not going to think of clearing anything else out, I spent the last two years doing that. My aim is narrow but a very big aim for me

We have started to alter the house on a very tight budget,so we can let a couple of rooms on air b&b.So hopefully we can bring a bit more money in.We are hoping to be ready by the end of January,so really need to get a move on,and I need to get listing on eBay to fund the project.
  • Well done everyone, and its right, its no so much resolutions, as I too think they don't work then you feel like you have failed.

Its more about hopes and aspirations than anything else Even doing one small thing different per day can make life a bit brighter I love Nelski's 'Smile more' I think we could all do with doing that ,

It costs nothing, (I am in favour of that one ) tick

It makes you feel better , ditto tick

The person who sees it feels better again ditto ) tick

and hopefully passes it along double ( tick :):):)

Such a small thing, but golly wouldn't the world be a brighter place if we smiled more.

I know times are tough and we all have problems, whether its finacial or personal, but smiling may not cure things ,but it may make your load a bit lighter.

My eldest DD popped in this afternoon and I have promised her I will faithfully de-clutter some of the books, junk, etc in my house

Mainly because she was after my old Kindle and I am blowed if I can find it
I may live in a very small three bedroomed mid terraced house but its still quite possible to put stuff away for safe keeping then forget where I have put it :):):)

So tomorrow morning its going to be at least one black bag of junk and one carrier bag of books to go to the local CS.This has to be repeated daily until I can find said Kindle ,and probably afterwards as well :):):)

Baby steps for us all I think.

Well done Kittie ,:) and away you go with your giant step we are all behind
    you xx

YorksLass I can feel for you with the yarn, stash I too seem to have accumulated far more than I can knit at times ,mainly because folk know I knit for charity and tend to say 'Oh here you are I'm sure you can use it up ' :)

We would all like to be a bit healthier, slimmer, richer, better organised but we are not wonder women, we are ordinary mortals :) so as the Cubs used to say dyb dyb dyb and what you can't manage today, tomorrow you will

Well done chums I think we could make 2018 the year we crack it :):):)

    JackieO xxxx
  • To go back to being the person I always used to be and who for various reasons I have lost sight of since oh and I retired.
All that clutter used to be money
  • Becoming more selfish. I like that. I need to stop the rest of the family from seeing the cleaning, cooking and general housework as MY jobs and get them all to do more. No idea how but I will work on it.

I need to work out what I want to do with my job and whether I want promotion or not, I just can't decide. There are pros and cons of working towards the promotion or staying as I am.

I want us to start living properly within our means. We have had a bit of extra money coming in which has come to an end so that means some hard spending decisions.

I want to generate less waste, buy less "stuff" and be less driven by commercialism.

Oh and I definitely want to be happier and worry less. I need to make more time for myself and relax more.

    What a lovely list!

Like many of you I aim to get on top of the clutter that seems to be taking over the house.
Empty the fridge, freezers etc start again with batch cooking.
Try new recipes and expand my repertoire.
Less screen time and more reading, I have a massive 'to read' pile and it doesn't seem to be getting any smaller.
Make a couple of trips with our DD focusing more on making memories than spending a fortune!
Make a planting list and stick to it! Want to make use of the small garden we do have.

looking forward to reading the rest.

I have enough money to last me the rest of my life ... until I go and buy something!
  • Less screen time - 1st step is to read instead of watch at bedtime!
    Declutter
    Save towards Christmas 2019
Make cards instead of buy them...after all I have enough ‘stuff’
    Journal/scrapbook monthly if not weekly
Exercise - starting officially with Parkrun on Saturday but also hula hooping tomorrow,
Money saved for Christmas 2018 £6/£500
No more Buying Books challenge - read 2 books 2017-18
    January NSDs - 3/15

Jackie, another lovely idea for a thread.
We are very fortunate in that we have friends in the caribbean so we have a couple of weeks in January with them (my DH has no work in January). I always take a notebook with me and write down things that I want to do / get done in the year to come. Most years I manage to achieve a fair amount from the lists :)

I shall report back once I have got my head together!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

JackieO I have been thinking along these lines myself lately,so thank you for making me consider things more seriously. As you can tell I'm sleepless tonight so I shall ponder awhile and report my thoughts tomorrow.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently

It will be really interesting to look back on this thread next year and see what we’ve accomplished :) I would like to:
1.Get back to the allotment. Insect bites and health issues have put me off and I’m just realising how much I’ve missed it over the past two years.
    2. Plan and take one much longer than usual walk with my dog every week. Inner city walking is neither scenic nor inspiring, but I’m not going to use that as an excuse any longer. He gets a lot of short walks and a good run on a nearby football field every day but it will do us both good to explore the canals near us and get a little closer to nature.
    3. Limit my computer time to an hour a day maximum. The iPad is eating my life.
And I’d like to borrow Sayschezzas words please. They leapt off the screen at me and struck a real chord
To go back to being the person I always used to be and who for various reasons I have lost sight of since MrC and I retired.
