:hello: Good morning everyone
Wishing you all a very happy Twelfth Night/Epiphany Eve.
Yesterday I brought all the empty boxes downstairs in
readiness for putting all the decorations away for another
year. I'm fairly superstitious about sticking to the dates.
Also going to pack up my very sad/very ancient Christmas
tree and send him on his way (to the tip ). In with the
new, out with the old etc! Will look out for a replacement
come November'ish.
Puddy cat joined in, bouncing off all the boxes having the
time of her life! :grinheart
Yay! It's slowly staying lighter for longer every day -
love it - thoroughly dislike the shorter days of Winter. Roll
on Spring!
Your life in the countryside sounded absolutely idyllic
mummy2threeboys - surrounded by nature. I'd not heard
of a Teddy Guinea Pig - just googled - they are sooooo
sweet! I think https://www.animalsearchuk.co.uk/ are
wonderful. :A Hope you managed to get a good sleep last
night.
It sounds as if the Guinea Pig is doing really well rose - think
your GD would be perfect as a new owner if no one claims him/
her. :T :j
Hope the rain has eased off a bit up your way sheils - the wind
kicked off again here yesterday afternoon/eve - also had rain
which will be easing this morning leading apparently to
a bit of sunshine - fingers crossed!
Did the engineer manage to sort out your DD1s heating
yesterday leanfun? It's a dreadful time of year to have no
warmth in the house - hope it's all sorted. xx
Thinking of you as always fire**fly. :A
Have a lucky day all and please take care whatever your
plans.

Hope you had a better night mummytothreeboys. Here yesterday was very windy.
Rose now if someone claims the guinea pig GD will be disappointed. At least she will look after it well.
Alfie DH was at DD1s and then she phoned from work to say engineer had phoned her to say no one was at her house. She lives in the South East and discovered the engineer was outside a house in Weston Super Mare! LO the company say they can't send someone to her address until Monday. Stupid thing is someone phoned here on Tuesday to say they didn't have a phone number for DD1. This is a London number and they said they had been told we needed half an hour warning to be at DD1s! How was DH supposed to be in the West Country in half an hour. no apology yet.
Another funny thing. Yesterday I won some John West Light meals. They said they would be delivered today. This morning I told DH I was expecting a delivery but not what. Yesterday he was having problems hearing, so I didn't bother to explain. He answered the door and said Tesco were trying to deliver cat food for someone else and turned the man away saying we don't have a cat. A few minutes later man came back and they were the Light meals in packaging that looks like cat fresh food.
Well I won a small prize and have laughed a lot today.
Here tree taking down time too. Firefly thanks for link about real tree no more pine needles came off but think they might when we move it. Think ill stick with the artificial tree next year but have to say grandchildren enjoyed decorating it. Hence most of the decorations are lo down.
Very sunny here now. Yahoo mail not working here.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and keep warm. Good luck.0 -
hiya all  just a quick pop in to say thanks for
thinking of me & all the messages xx ((hugs))
still busy sorting stuff out but nearly there thankfully,
sorry had no time to pop in before but have
a couple of hours tonight hopefully before I drop to

what's new on forum though doubt i'll have time to
enter/do comps!
take care all x

:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all well - so lovely to 'see' you yesterday evening
fire**fly (((hugs))). Thinking of you as always, please take
care. :A
What a carry on re fixing your DD1s heating leanfun! Total
fail! Just can't believe it and to not get an apology - well that
really takes the biscuit! Do hope they manage to
arrive at the 'correct' address Monday and complete the
job - they appear to be so incompetent!
Lol! Very well done on your prize of John West Light
meals! :T Very tasty win! I laughed out loud when your lovely
DH turned the delivery man away thinking it was cat food!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Luckily the chap came back!
So pleased your Grandchildren enjoyed dressing the Xmas
tree - it's such an exciting time for the little ones. xx
Well - had best get on and play a quick comp catch up
before I do anything else!
Have a wonderful weekend all and please take care
whatever your plans.

Morning everyone,
We are away at N Shields for a few nights. Had a lovely time yesterday.
Weather has been good enough for a January break and looking ok.
Hospital managed to squeeze my dad's operation in on Thursday which was good but one of my sisters is away in Amsterdam and I had this break booked. He is getting on fine though and I am not much further from Carlisle hospital here than I am at home. Sister will be home on Sunday and I will be back Monday. Other sis is at home and grandchildren helping with lifts as Carlisle 60 miles away and mum wouldn't drive there.
Trying to keep up to date with everyone.

:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all well - it's absolutely freezing here this morning!
No visit from Jack Frost, just feeling raw. Thankfully not nearly
so cold as the States! Brrrrr!
It's 'Distaff Day' today
Distaff Day, also called Roc Day, is 7 January, the day after the
feast of the Epiphany. It is also known as Saint Distaff's Day, one
of the many unofficial holidays in Catholic nations.
Many St. Distaff's Day gatherings are held, large and small,
throughout local fiber community. The distaff, or rock, used in
spinning was the medieval symbol of women's work.
In many European cultural traditions, women resumed their
household work after the twelve days of Christmas. Women of all
classes would spend their evenings spinning on the wheel. During
the day, they would carry a drop spindle with them.
Spinning was the only means of turning raw wool, cotton or flax
into thread, which could then be woven into cloth.
Men have their own way of celebrating this occasion; this is done
through Plough Monday. It is the first Monday after Epiphany
where men are supposed to get back to work.
Every few years, Distaff Day and Plough Monday falls on the same
day. Often the men and women would play pranks on each other
during this celebration, as was written by Robert Herrick in his
poem "Saint Distaffs day, or the Morrow After Twelfth Day" which
appears in his Hesperides.
Some modern craft groups have taken up the celebration of Distaff
day as part of their new year celebrations.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distaff_Day
St. Distaff's Day; Or, the Morrow after Twelfth-day
Partly work and partly play
You must on St. Distaffs Day:
From the plough soon free your team;
Then cane home and fother them:
If the maids a-spinning go,
Burn the flax and fire the tow.
Bring in pails of water then,
Let the maids bewash the men.
Give St. Distaff' all the right:
Then bid Christmas sport good night,
And next morrow every one
To his own vocation.

Great to hear that your Dad had his operation on Thursday
sheils & that he's getting on fine. xx Have a brilliant stay in
N Shields. My older brother spent a couple years in S Shields
(many moons ago) studying at a Maritime College. He was
fairly young at the time and had received a bursary via Shell
(he's the brainy one esp in maths, I'm the arty one ). I think
the college was in Tyneside? I do recall every time he came back
home he was developing a very strong northern accent!
So lovely to 'see' you yesterday fire**fly. :A Please take
care. (((Hugs))) I'm most definitely looking forward to Spring -
the garden will be calling and I can't wait to get out there again
and get stuck in ..... far too chilly today! Although they do
forecast sunshine down my way so ... may wrap myself up and
have a little wander to see if anything needs doing!
I'll bid you all farewell at the mo cos I have a bowl of steaming
hot porridge to devour.
Have a peaceful Sunday all.

Morning peeps. Hope you are all well. Annual big family dinner today. Sis came through last night so at least she has some time off and is not on call at hospital. DIL has bought the rib of beef I have made the pates for later potatoes partly boiled so can be roasted with beef. Ham is boiled. Goodness I sound busy lol. I just like cooking. Soup was made yesterday from ham stock. So we are going to stuff ourselves silly. It is frosty here alfie and really cold sky is bright blue, no clouds. Sunday papers are sitting on the couch but goodness knows when I am going to get time to read them. Off to make a cuppa so that I can have the time to enjoy it. Take care peeps.0
