Party On! 21st Dec 04 at 11:12 AM
Last year we held the MoneySavingExpert 1st birthday party in March in London. Where do you fancy this year? Everyone is invited. Apologies it's only a choice of two, but that's the best logistics we can manage. Please only vote for a place if you are genuinely likely to come.

    a. Manchester
    b. London
    c. Neither suit I'm afraid.

Manchester please, as I am alergic to London. :

    Re: Party On!
16 votes more in favour of London is not a crushing victory over Manchester especially when the people who actually posted mostly seem to favour Manchester. The vote is surely close enough to justify holding the party in Manchester and possibly returning to London next year or somewhere completely different.

Anyway what happens at the party, the usual stuff or does it have some sort of theme or speakers along the lines of the site?

    Hello Alwaysatwork

Martin and Andrea haven't told us what to expect at the next MSE party yet.

Mr & Mrs Nile went to the London party last year, which celebrated the first year of the mse web site and the launch of Martin's first book.......The Money Diet.

Some of the highlights of the London party (on 25/03/04) were:

Meeting Martin...........after queuing for three days ages: ;D
Getting your copy of The Money Diet signed by Martin
Watching some of the regulars get up on stage to reveal their faces and true identities..........where is Laminki?
Meeting lots of lovely MSE regulars and newbies
A welcome free drink.........Smirnoff Ice in my case 8)
Free fortune cookies..........which I opened but didn't eat
    Free massage....................not for me
Roulette wheel......I think :-/.........not for me

I have to say (persuade you?), if you're not sure about going to the party.............you must. You'll have a brilliant time and will meet some really lovely people.

...and you might even meet Nile! Oh, what I mean, of course, is that Nile is one of those really lovely people!

(You know I love ya really, Nile, just got that Friday feeling! ;D )

    Hi folks

I've been musing the party. To be honest I've spent much of the budget on the Tsunami and feel its a little inappropriate to start to organise one at the moment.

How about we hold off until the summer and do one then - i may try and coincide it (fingers crossed if all goes well) with the site hitting a landmark of members e.g. 200,000 or 250,000.

    What do you think

in the mean time the unofficial ones can continue

Even though I live in London .... I would say Manchester ...... as there has been a London meet already :-/ And I think it is a good idea to delay it till summer ..... better weather ... and those going to the other meets won't have to run around from meet-to-meet.

On the summer front ...... can we have the meet at a beach ;D

    Party in Manchester - yes

Party in the summer - maybe :-/........but would we lose a lot of interested people who will be abroad on hols?

Party in the autumn - may be a better choice?

Party on a Thursday night - no.........not again, why not a Friday or Saturday night?

    That's my two penneth.

have no probs that the budget for it has been spent on charideeeeeee - good call.

agree with nile too. and mrs thrift. and vanoonoo. and vanvoodoo. and martin.

the friday manchester meet wasnt nearly enough time, the thursday london meet wasnt nearly enough time, the sunday afternoon & evening dudley meet was a great length of time ..... longer meets needed! mind you whever you arrange now a few of us have met we can always arrange something additional and extra ciricular before or after whatever the official martin meet is type thing

Hey Nile, don't tell Mr Thrift lies!

    Re: Party On!
I take it I'm still the only one voting for holding it in Galston?

I doubt I could get to Manchester or London specifically for an MSE party.
  • Mrs Thrift
    Re: Party On!
Erm, I actually wouldn't mind Galston; my cousin lives there so she could put me up, and I could visit the rest of the family who live nearby while I'm there!

But where would we hold it? Are you offering your house as a venue, Gal?

Oh, and it would have to be in the summer - I am the only Scot I know who feels the cold like you wouldn't believe! :
