1p Energy Saving Bulbs 17th Jan 08 at 10:01 AM
    18 March 2008
    What's it about?

Tesco is currently offering energy saving bulbs for 1p each. It expects quite a stampede, so the offer's limited to four per customer. The deal includes both bayonet and screwfit bulbs, and there are several different brands available at 1p, including Tesco's own brand. These normally cost about £1.50 each, so this is a great bargain.

    Where can I get them?

Bulbs are available both in store and online (there's a delivery charge for online shopping). If you're not sure where your nearest Tesco is, then use its store locator to find out.

But at that price won't they run out?

The offer was launched on 12 March it's been so popular already some people are reporting them not being available in their nearest stores. If you're making a special journey then it's worth ringing your store to check before you leave home.

P.S. This deal was originally spotted by MoneySaver Gerf below. This post was inserted so we could give you the full lowdown. Thanks for the top spot!

I've just been to Tesco in Carlisle (Rosehill) on my way to work and can CONFIRM that these lightbulbs were on sale for 1p on the shelves.

I filled two carrier bags for 50p, however it was a bit of a battle with all the Tesco staff who were filling baskets themselves as soon as they arrived for work!!

Went through self service tills (with a queue of staff who were doing the same thing) and there were no eyebrows raised.

I couldn't beleive there were still any there at 7.45am!!

Quite a lot of General Electric, Tesco Energy and Tesco Value branded bulbs were 1p, but it is only about 1/3 of the range they stock. The rest were normal price.

Many thanks op got ten this morning, going to get hubby to put them all up later. Did have a manager by them though stating their bulk buy policy was six of each item, one woman asked of each type and he said no you can have 6 light bulbs like you can only have six of any other type of thing in store. I picked up six hubby picked up six and gave 2 tio his mum and we left the woman arguing that how come they have never complained at her buy 20 tins of cat food at a time

Thanks to OP. I've just picked up 6 at 1p each in Tesco Abingdon.

What utter rubbish. This is not about pointing out a hoax, its been about a one person crusade about any old rubbish you come up with. Readers are interested in the grabbit, not what you think of government legislation or the MD of Tesco.
Thanks to the OP for what turned out to be a real genuine bargain grabbit.

Hi, I managed to get some 1p Tesco and GE Bulbs from Tesco, Bar Hill.

They had not changed the shelf edge label, and they were putting lots of new bulbs out.

You do need to check as some as mentioned above in posts, are still full price.

    Thanks OP.

Managed to get 18 today. Went through the self scan and the woman stopped me half way through and made me look like a criminal! She said only 6 allowed (as I had 8 of one type) so I asked if it was 6 of each type, she said no, 6 in all and then a supervisor came up behind her and said it was 6 of each type. Felt like a blooming shoplifter the way she spoke to me. Think I may complain to CS.

I cleared tesco out this morning, I bought 41 energy saving lightbulbs for 41p. Some for mum, my sister and the neighbour, however when I was at the checkout a man dressed in a shirt and tie came up to me and said "we operate a bulk buying policy at this store, no more than 10 of each item", I said "where is the sign?, I haven't seen one" "You've got me on that one, I don't know where it is" and walked away.

    My best bargain to date.

    Every little helps.
