Android app - viewers logic

Not sure which sub-forum to post this in but there is an android app being advertised all over Facebook at the moment offering £5 a month to monitor your TV viewing habits. It is called viewers logic.

During installation it requires permission to access several features which make me uneasy.

Ability to make telephone calls
Usage data access (allows app to monitor what apps you use)
Accessibility (allows app to monitor your online activity)
Location data

Does anyone here use this app?
Do these permissions sound too far and unsafe?

Thanks
Chris

To me that would be the abnormal one .Unless it phones home with your habits .
  • I've had this running for just over a year. The app has never made any calls, texts or notifications. I get the odd email telling me of updates and such but other than that, I get £5 per week for doing pretty much !!!!!! all.

If you really were getting paid by this company you'd know the difference between getting £5 a week or £5 a month.

    Update: got an email.
They now require 2 apps to be installed. One downloaded directly from Viewers logic, requiring changing permissions to allow installation from unknown sources.

If there were nothing nefarious going on then they would just dump the app in the play store surely ??!!

And i may be missing something as i obviously havent installed it , but ...

How does an app on your mobile, monitor what you watch on your TV ?

It connects to your Sky box over wifi.
Agreed on the app side. They state Google 'did something' forcing them to split the app in 2 parts.
I assume they have something in the app Google wont allow.

If you allow an 'installation from unknown source' you are taking a risk because you'll have no idea what it's doing in the background. Personally I wouldn't...

But of course we all know that we would have no idea if it was making calls or sending texts would we ?
Because if the programmer chooses, then this activity is completely hidden from the user.
(providing it has been granted permission on install of course)
