Why Walk When You Can Fly

Why Walk When You Can Fly 11th Sep 18 at 10:02 AM
Time for a new diary, although not at the end of 2018 yet, my plans put in place at the beginning of the year, haven't quite gone as planned....like most things

Title of my diary comes from a Mary Chapin Carpenter song of the same name and the lyrics are rather apt to the present moment, it symbolises life and at ahem (42, shhhh!! Don't tell anyone) it resonates with me.

    Debt as it stands:

    MBNA: 5960 0% Sept 2019
    BC: 40
    Lloyds: 10,000 - 0% April 2021
    Lloyds OD: 2750

    Grand Total: 18750.00

So whilst that looks horrendous, it is manageable.

    Pots:

General - This is my default pot - will be used as my emergency pot
    DD's Travel - Yearly
Overdraft - Will make a monthly payment until I hit target
CC Overpayment - Same as above
Cars - Again as above but no set target, will be used for all things car related
Household - Everything house related - may include Quarterly and Yearly bills??

    Good Things:
    • Capital One card has gone along with DS's misdemeanour from last year, this one I was adamant was going this year.
    • We've paid off over 7K off the debt this year. Most of that was because of DH's commission and general saving up but also due to Surveys
    • Car is finally sorted
    • Lounge has been decorated
    • Pots set up
    • DS has finally settled down in school (I hope!)

    Bad Things:
    • The debt has increased - probably by what we already paid off, not sure.

The good outweighs the bad, which means that things are going the right way.

My Mini Goals from the previous diary are still the same.

Once I hit 500 saved that will go off the OD and reduced.
I will dribble as much as I can on to the LC, with the aim of paying off 1500 reduction by Christmas - wishful thinking but nothing like a challenge.

I've subscribed but I like the old diary title better

My daughter did a Young Voices thing at the O2 a few years back. 20,000 kids singing backing vocals to "Unsinkable". Lucy Spraggan had her leg in a cast, I think she'd broken her ankle or something. There were several singers there but most of them didn't really want to be there because they thought they were better than performing with kids. But Lucy Spraggan made it all about the kids and really involved them - she was fantastic! It was a great day and your diary always reminds me of it.

    But now it won't anymore

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

I have checked Quidco and my Home Insurance from March has finally cleared, balance on there is 27.88.

I think I'll withdraw it and pay that off the BC, that'll leave me with 12.12 to pay off.

ETA - Have checked the BC and the transfer has gone out from there. Balance is showing a nice 40

    Happy Hump Day
    Morning,

It's Wednesday, nearly the weekend lol.

Checked online banking this morning and the balance transfer has gone through that plus the transfer fee means that we owe the LC 10,300.00. I was expecting that so not a huge shock.

I'll update my signature to reflect the change.

Made the necessary money shuffling to reflect what's come out over night.

Transferred the money over from Quidco, so once that hits the bank I will pay that off the remainder of the BC.

Brought my lunch with me today, I'm slowly getting in to the habit with that.

I'm hoping for some surveys today, I've not logged on to PA since the change over. I think I'll leave that one until they sort the kinks out.

Had meet the tutor last night at the school for DS, half an hour of dribble from his Year Head and then a 5 min conversation with his new form tutor who knew nothing about DS. Still we showed up so that counts I guess.

I bet you can't wait to clear the BC.

I know what you mean about school evenings, sometimes it seems like a waste of your time but you have to show your face to get some brownie points for your family.
