Need to get myself together: The beginning 16th Sep 14 at 12:38 PM
    Hi all

I am back. Short story, I was in this position before though holding a baby in my arms and his dad left us with a loan I got for him (I naively believed there was people after him) and such a bad overdraft. I managed to scrape it back and pay it all off and was on a high (figuratively) of being debt free.

Four years on I have been left (no baby this time) and foolishly beleived this guy was decent. No need to tell me off or should have known better, believe me I am my own worst enemy.

So now my debts are :

1,000 overdraft (hope to clear by Christmas or least by January)
200 odds Next (Yeah this is me I cannot blame anyone but myself here) I want it cleared by Christmas at least
5,000 loan ( I am mad I know for having got it for him and he "says"will help with this but will not hold my breath as he is already asking for more money - probably for the girl he left me for...) I hope to pay this back in 2.5 years not the 5 year plan I was given.

Anyway, I am determined and I will not fail

Also need to put money aside for America in May 2015. (125 a month) and also 52 week challenge. The reason I am going to America is its my 30th and my mum and dad are paying for this.

The first post is longer than I thought it would be I am so sorry!!

Hopefully I will be back on track soon xx

    Advice please?

I was thinking getting a 0% credit card (33 months it says at this) and was going to use it to clear my overdraft?

You think it would be a good idea or leave it?x

Hi monz, if you are currently paying for being in your overdraft and you're sure you won't get into any more debt by using the cc for anything else, then I would say probably go for it - makes sense to have the debt at 0%
Debt at LBM Jan 2014 10458.09 Now 0
New flat debt Jan 2017 2302.75 Now 98.37 (95.7% paid)
    Car debt Nov 2017 797.68 Now 746.79 (6.4% paid) + monthly payments 146.82 18/60
    Emergency fund - 70/1000. Car fund - 100/1000.

I would say its always better to have it on 0%

As long as you are strict with yourself & pay it off in time.

I have been a wee plonker before & got the 0% then paid off the rest of the cards then ran them all up again - whoops!

As my granda has given me 40 over last couple days and I have got messages and paid off lotto for work and such... I decided pay the odds of 4.31 to my next account making it 180 I owe to it and 4.95 to my loan to make it end in 0. Every little contribution helps haha x

Do you think if each month after interest is added and that if I keep rounding it off might pay off loan quicker as well... obv I will keep overpaying but the little 4 here and there I guess in a year would be like 48 approx extra payment in a year x

Whatever you save from anywhere just get it all paid to the debt.

Thats what I am gonna be doing each month just to try & get it down as much as possible.

hey monz! Your doing so well keep it up

Go for the 0% sounds like your in a good place right now to be strict with it, and getting anything possible onto 0% is going to help, I did it with Barclaycard... got 0% transfer to current account and paid off my 15.5% loan with it! Now I am just paying off the debt itself not interest. Also once its on a credit card, you can balance transfer to another 0% if you are tackling other debts first and the offer runs out.

I am so nervous about getting a credit card always been taught they are bad lol!!! Coming from me with debt problem hmmm haha.

21 days until pay day and I can further attack this loan lol. Will be happier after Christmas when I do not need to worry about presents and hopefully as my 30th (ahhh) I will probably get money to throw more into it lol!!

I have one night out on Saturday and following Saturday (taking car - means spending less always a good thing) then its preparing for my sons 4th birthday party x

Was also thinking - (Yes I post too much :P) I have a big bottle that I fling my change in. I was planning on keep putting change in and giving it to my son on his 21 or shoving it into bank? I have probably over 100 in it but I would feel a let down if I done this... Unsure what to do.

Will think over weekend about this x

So I done a calculation and I should be debt free by June 2017. I want to beat that and will try my best even if its December 2016 at least I can see that I will get there.

Just need to stick with it x

Credit cards can be soooo bad if used in the wrong way, but amazing for shifting debts to 0% as long as your clearing as much as possible off of it

I would say put the change in the bank and use it to debts you can replace it later on when you are debt free, but you have to do what you think is best! Xx

Ok... So I bagged them and the ones that would make it full bag (like 50p won't add to 10) I put back in the bottle. So I got 109 to bag into my bank !!! Probably left about 30 in bottle to start afresh. That will go for my over draft, very happy with that and can't believe the amount!wow x
