temporary car insurance for non-UK licence drivers

I have friends and relatives visiting the UK this summer and would like them to be able to drive my car (Canadian and Mexican driver's licences). All the temporary insurance cover I've been able to find so far has required a UK licence. Is it possible to get temporary cover for non-UK drivers anywhere?

Why can't you add them as named drivers to your own insurance?0

You can't add them as they don't have a permanent UK address. We have this problem when our overseas visitors stay. Now they just hire a car.0

The rules must have changed then. A few years ago I added my Hong-Kong resident sister in law to my insurance for a fortnight. I rang Privilege and they took the details over the phone and gave instant cover.
UK driving test but had never insured a car here.0 -
My aunt was here from Germany 2 weeks ago. She has a UK license but an address in Germany. We just called the insurer and had her added to the policy for a week. Cost £11.0

Having an EU licence is acceptable ( at present we are part of the EU) but not a non EU licence.0
