    Good morning all,

    As we've decided that we'd like a new thread for each part of our 2019 challenge I've changed the thread title slightly. I haven't posted the links to previous challenges either - we're all capable of looking them up by title if we want them. If you do get stuck looking for them give me a shout and I'll find them for you. Please feel free to start posting your weight loss goals for the next challenge which will run from the 1st of April until the 30th of June (13 weeks).

    You do not have to submit a loss or gain for the first week as it's our starting week, you can post your first loss or gain the week after. I for one will be starting new after this weekend (party Saturday and Mothering Sunday today, oh dear! ).

    As usual everyone is welcome - we support and encourage, we don't judge.

    Oh dear Katie ,emotional upsets are one of my triggers also ! You are doing the right thing by diverting yourself with a walk and trying to eat sensibly .HANG IN THERE today and think how pleased with yourself you will feel. Try to take each day as it comes and deal with each little hiccup .Good luck with today .

    Oh Katie, your day sounds like it started a lot like mine. I was tired to start with because my bladder is very irritable just now and kept me awake a lot of the night (I think I had a light bulb moment about that and if I'm right it will be great). Apparently the cat (who the House Troll begged me to let sleep upstairs) woke the HT up a few times in the night so he said he was shattered. I therefore did the bad mother thing, phoned the HT in sick at school to save him pretending he was ill so I had to collect him later and went back to bed for a couple of hours as I knew I'd just want to eat otherwise.

    I'm also a bit miffed/upset/whatever because of a couple of people that I've given a lift to fat class for a couple of years and who I carried on taking and bringing home even when I stopped going. One who claims to be my friend had a big birthday last month...and despite me saying "lets do something" I wasn't invited to the celebrations - the other person was. I had a message today saying person whose birthday was last month was arranging a birthday do for the other person and did I want to come. Thing is she's arranged it for the day of my birthday....it might be cutting my nose off to spite my face but I currently feel like I can't be bothered with either of them and I'm not in the mood to spend my birthday with them.....whinge over!

    I'm making rhubarb crumbles for my friend who is very poorly either later or tomorrow. I will use sweetener instead of sugar as my friend is trying to lose some of the weight she's gained from steroids. I may make a very small one for me. Yesterday's food (still behaving) was :-

    b - couscous, fruit and yogurt
    l - ham salad sandwich
    d - chicken with mild nando's rub, salad and reduced fat coleslaw
    s - apple and bag of quavers from multipack

    Crikey Cranky how rude of them especially when you taxi them about. They can walk from now on, might help them shift a few pounds too!

    I have fallen badly off the wagon from mother’s day onwards, culminating in the most enormous sugar binge yesterday. I woke up and was sick (sorry tmi) and have had a headache all day. Starting my sugar free withdrawal again so I know I will be rough for 3 days.

    The keto was great for fast weight loss but I couldn’t stick to the 20g carb as it stopped my innards from moving. I’m going to up carbs and add fruits which I couldn’t have on keto. I will cut down on the fats to compensate.

    I’m sure the sugar really does me harm mentally, I’ve been having real down moments since I was eating it again. So I will see how I get on with this new modified diet. Oh and I will start using my app again, I’ve been super lazy typing in what I eat. Please boot me up the backside for this challenge

    Evening Everyone.

    I didn't manage to post yesterday as I woke up with a headache and later started feeling shivery so went off to bed with a pile of books and a load of Vitamin C tablets. I slept from about 5.30pm to 8pm and I am sure it helped me throw off whatever was lurking as I feel fit and well again today. I didn't worry about achieving my step count yesterday but will go well over today as I have already done over 17,000 steps and will do more as I am collecting DGD from Brownies, bringing her back here and putting her to bed and then going out to a quiz with DS and DDiL whilst DH babysits. (I just have to be strong minded and resist the crisps that will inevitably be bought and put out to share.) I also played tennis this afternoon so have been quite active.

    Lunch: Piece of Camembert
    Dinner: Sole with cauliflower cheese, peas, mushrooms and half a small jacket potato. Small bunch of red grapes
    Treats: 6 squares of dark chocolate. Slimline tonic with lime cordial (at the quiz)

    One way I have found to help with mindless eating is to 'close the kitchen'. Once the evening meal is out of the way put everything away properly, with no open bags on the work top or half-covered dishes in the fridge; close the drawers and cupboards; wipe the surfaces; turn off the lights and close the door. By doing this you help signal to yourself, 'Eating time is over for the day'. It feels odd to go back in there, and it discourages you from just looking around. As an added bonus you can brush your teeth.

    Maybe this might help the scenario where you go looking for something to eat or open the fridge and spot something you'd forgotten about till you were looking at it.

    Sounds like you started the day with a migraine dandy. It could have been triggered by food related issues though. I'm trying to cut out sugar as much as possible this week and I'm tired today which is making it harder. It's an odd feeling when your head is saying no to something but the rest of your body is saying yes. maybe that's contributing to you feeling miserable - I really dislike the feeling of being out of control. Tomorrow is a new day....draw the line and move on.

    Izadora I forgot to say well done on the running. It's a strange feeling when you look back and think how week one nearly killed you yet there you are running like....well....like a runner. I can still run for 30 minutes no problem. after that it gets tougher and I'm still very slow.

    Hello!

    Can I put in a target of 18 (gulp) lbs for the next 3 months please.

    I feel I could have reached target last time had I not had a couple of stupid binge eating episodes.

    18 lbs will put me within 1/2 to 1 stone of my ultimate target weight, which I would like to reach by August.

    I can do this.

    I can do this.

    Although I am nowhere near happy with my weight I am a lot happier with myself. I look in the mirror and see that I look a bit better than I did at the start of the year, instead of hating my reflection. I have lost over a stone this year - something I haven’t achieved for a long time.

    fit and freaky I'll add you. Don't be so hard on yourself. The binge eating episodes aren't stupid - they're a response to something inside you. Have a read of the link that katiepants has put up.

    katiepants I read the stuff in the link that you posted. I'm actually following the suggested meal plan all by myself - mostly because if I go without food for too long I get a migraine. I'm trying not to let myself get too hungry which means planning better. I'm starting to prepare and cook my meals before I get to the point where I'm so hungry that I'm wandering round the kitchen eating anything that I can see while I'm waiting for my dinner. I'm going to avoid alcohol for the foreseeable future as well I think as once I've had a drink my mind sort of shuts off to calories and I just start reaching for food....any food.

    Rose Wood sorry you were poorly and I hope you're feeling OK today? Closing the kitchen is a good idea. Our cat sleeps downstairs so we tend to put her to bed as we collect our supper. That means that if we want any more food we have to fight our way past the cat who is way keener to get back upstairs than we are to have her there - she's not a peaceful sleeper if she stays upstairs with us, she's an annoying, noisy fidget.

    I'm just finishing my cup of green tea, then I'm going to make some rhubarb crumbles for my friend who is poorly. After that I'll go and do a bit more gardening for another friend. I've cleared most of the rubbish from her garden, just a little more to shift and some large tree branches to saw into pieces, bag up and take to the tip. It's almost ready to start making it look like a garden again. My friend is very grateful for the work I've done. I'm just happy that she is losing weight and starting to feel better about things in general.

    I've not made a good start to this challenge at all but today is a new day and all that!
    I had a meeting London yesterday and unusually didn't have anything prepped for lunch for today, so have treated myself to some nice sushi, healthy but a nice little treat as it's something I rarely have.

    I've had a terrible start to the challenge, but I'm determined to get back on track. I have binge eating disorder and whilst I have a handle on it, sometimes I don't and that's ok.

    Hi all

    I am still here and definitely want to make more of an effort this time as I was a bit slack on the last challenge. I lost weight last week, but put it on again this week. To be fair, I've had Mother's Day, my birthday (yesterday), and my oh has been on leave, so we've been out a lot going on little day trips and eating picnics. I think I am still 4lbs lighter though.

    My target for this challenge is to lose 11lbs, Cranky.

    This would get me to my goal weight. I am currently 165lbs - I decided to share as I usually put it on my calendar, but that's hanging in my kitchen in Shropshire, whilst I am still up in Scotland until the middle of May, when I go back to work.

    So onwards and downwards. I'm going to change my WI day to Monday, as that always feels like a good day to make a fresh start and because we're hopefully having afternoon tea in Edinburgh tomorrow as my birthday treat and oh starts back at work next week...

    Are we weighing from this week or next? I've a small gain this week but I can sweep it under the rug if we're starting next week

    I've been much better behaved this week and as it's my Saturday work I should manage to keep to plan for most of the week, who'd have thought work would be a good thing?!

    Cranky your friends sound like an ungrateful bunch, I'm not surprised you don't want to spend your birthday with them, spend it with people who appreciate you and make you happy.

    Not sure if it was the clocks going forwards but I've had an awful struggle getting up for work everyday this week, usually I wake up before the alarm but I've hit that snooze button countless times this week. Day off tomorrow so I don't have to get up til 7 thank goodness. My ankle feels much better so hope to get back to my c25k next week, think I might have to redo week 4 to ease into it again.

    B porridge, fruit, dash of milk tsp maple syrup
    No lunch as working overtime till 3 so banana and a cereal bar on the train home
    D made the Nasi Goreng from the pon book (dd request) it was very nice
    Might have a yoghurt later

    SIRENS I think that the general consensus was take a starting weight this week with a view to reporting a weight loss next week. Make absolutely sure your ankle is better - maybe even just start with a fast walk. I ran on my pulled muscle way to soon, hurt it even more and then of course it took even longer to heal. As to my so called friends, I've come to the conclusion that they're not. I have enough good friends to survive without them

    I'm another one whose glad to not start counting until next week, I popped on the scales yesterday and so rather than comfort eating afterwards I'm trying desperately to stay away from temptation. It can definitely be a vicious circle of eating, feeling mad at yourself and then eating again to try and make yourself feel better, If that makes sense, I definitely sabotage myself usually when I doing well and the weight is coming off.

    I'm currently sitting trying to avoid raiding the kitchen as I'm not hungry but fancy something sweet, I've also brought the pinch of nom book having flicked through a colleague's so I may go through it and menu plan Maybe in bed. I've seem a lamb shank recipe which I may cook for my sister on Sunday as I have a couple in the freezer

    Today's food hasn't been too bad so far

    B - the colder weather has meant I'm back on the porridge and banana
    L - sweet potato, butternut squash and pepper soup from the freezer with some crackers
    D - gammon, bubble and squeak, runner beans and asparagus
    S - grapes and orange - one mini gin and tonic favour white chocolate egg which I can tell you are favours which shouldn't be mixed a waste of gin and chocolate I was happy to leave the rest of them to my colleagues

    Hi Everyone

    A late one from me. I normally babysit on Thursdays but the family are off on holiday tomorrow so I worked instead of DDiL so she could finish the packing. I hate it when they all go on holiday, though I am pleased for them I miss them all so much.

    I've had a busy day. I played tennis this morning and went running with my friend this afternoon. She has been ill so we've had a week off but decided to see if we could manage Week Four of Couch25K rather than repeat week three. We did manage it so were really pleased with ourselves. As I walked to various venues over the day and took DGD to school first thing I've easily managed my step target - in fact I've done over 26,000 steps for the day. Eating hasn't been quite as good as I succumbed to a chocolate treat at work!

    Breakfast: left over toast and scrambled egg from DGD's breakfast.
    Lunch: Smoked salmon and cream cheese with cheese, egg, spinach leaves, avocado, tomato and cucumber.
    Dinner: Scallops and prawns in garlic butter with peas. Peach slices with cream.
    Treats: Custard cream, Malteaser Rabbit

    Oops, I completely forgot today was Friday! I meant to weigh in on Fridays, but I've had breakfast now so will do it tomorrow instead.

    Perhaps that's a good thing, as I had too much to eat yesterday. Would have been okay if I hadn't had a big portion of my Mum's apple crumble. Will do better today

    So yesterday wasn't the best, however it definitely could have been worse. It was 2 people's birthday, and our team meeting in the office, so there was cake/brownies/biscuits/chocolate galore. I did succumb to the temptation, and scoffed a creme egg, 4 small brownies, 3 flapjack bites and 4 mini cookies, but I did stop there and still went to the gym after work. Typically what would have happened is I would have given in to everything and even stopped at the shops on the way home to buy more junk.

    In total, the sweet treats came to about 6-700 extra calories (not even as much as a pub meal and pint), where as a normal binge could easily be 2000+. Considering I'm aiming for a calorie deficit, the worst that happened is that I broke even. Today is a new day and I'm feeling positive.

    Cranky Sorry about your ungrateful friends. Even when you know you're better off without them and have genuinely lovely people around you it's still a disappointment when you realise that people aren't who you thought they were.

    Brambling I definitely understand what you mean about the vicious circle of comfort eating. What I don't understand is why, when I'm fully aware of the regret and self-loathing that are bound to follow, I still do it.

    Rose I hope that you're not too much at a loss with your family away.

    Katie Well done for not giving into temptation on the way home and still going to the gym.

    I've been logging everything via MFP this week and have had between 1,100 and 1,500 calories each day yet was still heavier this morning than I was on Monday. I've somehow managed not to do my usual and say "s0d it, if I'm not losing weight when I'm trying then I may as well give up and eat a mountain of crisps and chocolate" yet but it's really, really hard.

    Brambling I too get trapped in the vicious circle of binge ! Itís always for something sweet and usually when Iíve just eaten a well balanced meal .Once started I find it hard to stop,even when Iíve ceased to enjoy whatever I know I shouldnít be eating . Then I feel cross with myself and have to make a massive effort to tell myself to put it behind me and carry on .That is why I make such slow progress but I realise I must be getting better at control because the weight is coming off albeit very slowly .

    Cranky itís hard when friends are not what you hoped they were perhaps we shouldnít always think the best of people and then be disappointed when they donít measure up. Glad youíve decided to give them a wide berth and stick to genuine friends.

    Izadora Iím glad to see to are managing to keep going and Iím sure your loss will show very soon if you keep youíre spirits up .
    Katie well done for going to the gym and realising that the treats coul have been much worse.

    Rose donít let missing the family affect your super exercise regime and your healthy eating - they will be back before you know it. I too feel an empty space when mine are away .

    Hope we all keep working on our healthy eating through the weekend ready for our weigh ins next week .

    Before the end of the challenge I had 3 STS weeks where my eating wasn't that bad. The final weekend of the final week was however very bad and by the time I weighed myself Monday morning this week I was 14st 9lbs which reduces the total loss of the previous challenge to a grand total of 2 lbs. I have messed about with the same half stone for 4 months now so I've taken myself in hand this week but.....the running makes a difference. When I pick it up after not running for a while (like from October to January) I always gain or stay the same for the first 3 weeks. Funny things our bodies. It's to do with water and muscle repair.

    katiepants well done on enjoying treat day without carrying on treating yourself in private for the rest of the week. A real triumph.

    MrsLottie I often have the sweet craving after a meal. I think it's something to do with insulin response. I'm learning to fight back and tell myself that if I keep my treat until supper time I'll enjoy it more. It doesn't always work but it's good to be aware of it and try to fend it off.

    Rose Wood on 26 000 steps I don't think you need to worry that much about the chocolate bunny. I hope your family's holiday time passes quickly for you.
