    Unregistered Electricity Meter

Unregistered Electricity Meter 19th May 19 at 12:28 PM
    To put it simply...
I have moved into a property that has an unregistered electricity meter (I'm the owner) and decided to let UK Power Networks know and try to get it swapped for a normal credit meter with a new supplier.
I have started the whole process in December, I'm still battling with British Gas (apparently they can only do it, tried Bulb and they were clueless) to get it arranged but they are dragging it and telling me that the hold up is basically waiting for some 'details' to be updated on their side.
Has anyone else here ever experienced something similar?
I have lost all my patience already...

When you moved in did you take a meter reading? Do you have any contact details for the previous owners?

I had a similar problem several years ago, it took a long time to sort out and the new supplier tried to sue me for ALL the electricity used since the house was built (even though I'd only just moved in!).

Also, try getting in touch with the ombudsman...

    Hi Grimsalve,

Thank you for the link, I'm gonna try it out.

Unfortunately I didn't take a reading. The meter is a key top up prepayment meter and at the time of moving I wasn't aware how to get a reading as all it was showing was an amount left in .

Also, I have no contact with previous owners.

Soon after moving I spoke to British Gas about the meter and the need of swapping and if anything it is their fault they left it too long.

I recorded it with them as a complaint and all they been doing is trying to fob me off. Their customer service is just the worst...

    Hi

If the meter is unregistered you won’t be billed, however as it’s prepay any loss of supply means you are stuck off supply, so you need to get someone to register this.

Ask British Gas what is taking so long, it’s more then likely the registration process of the meter on the national database, but I would check

In regards to going to EO, no point nothing they can do. Most people think they are magic and fix everything my experience is that most people are left more frustrated after EO get involved as it’s a long drawn out process.

    Hope this helps

. its just a matter of pressing the big blue button to "total kwhs " on screen "G " which shows the reading of total kwhs since the meter was installed..
Screen " H " shows the total kwh s of the present occupiers usage
