Be careful using Uswitch! 23rd Mar 06 at 1:49 AM
About 6 months ago I looked at various energy cost comparison services and finally settled on Uswitch. After meticulous analysis, I switched from Powergen to EDF which was showing a saving of about 100 p.a. The following day, I thought that I had better check that the rates quoted in the comparison which were used as the basis for a change were correct.

I was horrified to find that not only were the EDF rates they were using were less than those that were to be charged to me, but also even more alarmingly, the Powergen rates they were working on were MORE than I was being charged. I therefore switched back immediately without penalty.

The moral to this story is: satisfy yourself that both the current supplier and new supplier rates are correctly shown. Some comparison services do not show the rates they assume are attributable to your usage and area. In this case, do not switch. If they do, take time to ensure that they are correct.
