Account Closed - Who Updates Credit File?

Hi.

I had a default on a TSB overdraft in 2017, this was passed to Wescot.
One month ago, I paid Wescot the outstanding amount in full.

My credit file says the account is in default and the balance remains the same.

I have spoken to TSB and because the account is closed they cannot access any information to update the status to settled on my credit file.

Wescot have said that they have sent all information back to TSB so they are unable to do anything.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what I could do to update the credit file.
If TSB and Westcot no longer have access to the account, how would I be able to update the status to settled as I am hoping to apply for a mortgage this year.

Thanks for any help.

The company who added the information is responsible for its accuracy

Thanks, So that's TSB. I have telephoned them but they say they cannot access my information because the account is closed.

I have an address I am going to write to them as well. Just wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation.

They are legally required to make sure the data is accurate. Mention the information commissioner in your letter

    That's great thank you.

Is the information commissioner that same as the ombudsman?

The information commissionrs office (ICO) is the body that deals with breaches of data protection law.

In the first instance I would raise a complaint via the credit reference agencies. They will do the leg work by contacting TSB

    Brilliant, thank you.

I will post back here how I get on, in case anyone else finds it helpful.
  • Is there an entry listed for Westcot on your files?

Does that have anything listed against it?

It can take a while for these changes to filter through to the credit reference agencies depending on when companies send their updated data. I cleared a couple of accounts with Lloyds Bank in May. They only reflected in my credit file at the start of July. I would wait until your next credit report is issued before jumping to complain.

No, the entry is for TSB not Westcot
