    Set Your TARGET

    28 Days up for grabs!

    Everyone Welcome!
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Suffering from the after effects this morning.....

I don't drink for 2/3 months but then drink to excess. I always tell myself 'never again' but then end up repeating old mistakes when I meet up with friends. I envy people that can go out and enjoy themselves without alcohol but I'm not one of them.

I console myself by saying I haven't touched a drop in months but I know that's no defence to 'bingeing ' on occasions.

Do you know what prompts you to have the first one? I never wanted to stop once I had 'just the one.'

    3/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.
  • Hello, wondering if I could join you please? I have just watched the Adrian Chiles doc and found it thought provoking. I have also just come back from a weeks all inclusive holiday followed by a girly night with cocktails and wine (a rarety) on which I think I exceeded the weekly recommended daily units (14j in a night!

Prior to the holiday and since March when I discoverd my H was having an affair my consumption has increased. This was either drinking alone to relax/numb things or with him trying to either work it out (initially) or move on (now). Since coming back from holiday I have decided not to socialise with him anymore, I need to start to move on. We have an 11 yo son.

I am overweight too and alcohol plays a part in that. I also have a family medical history which includes heart disease, stroke and cancer. All the more reason to cut down the booze. I am 46.

So, i have decided to cut down in September by reducing weekly consumption and having some alcohol free days and I plan to do sober for October.

Do any of you try to stick to a set number of units? I thought this week I would go for 20-25 units and then next week 15-20 units.

I had a small glass of red last night. Started watching the program and didn’t have anymore.

Back at work tomorrow so will try to abstain tonight.

Would someone please explain the different abbreviations/targets/challenges or point me to the right page.

    Thank you 🙏

    Welcome Purple Jay!

Firstly, so sorry you have had such a tough time...I think we can all probably relate to how you've ended up drinking more than you would like...life is hard hey.....

We have a number of challenges running at the moment. A school night challenge where posters try to have AFDs (alcohol free days) from Sunday through to Friday - you can set any target you like from 1 to 5. But you can go TF (Target free).

We also have a monthly challenge - again any target you like from 1-30. You can also go TF (Target free).

Also an annual challenge for 2018...you might want to do what's left of the year?

So shout out your targets and have a go. Don't worry if you miss your targets absolutely nobody on this thread will judge you.....

For Sept I will go for 15 AF days 😊

And I will go for 70 AF days for the remaining 4 months of 2018! 😀

Yearly Total - 200/300days!! (if I've done my sums properly!)

    2/5 School nights
    2/26 AFDs
    3/26 TAFDs

I joined slimming world on Saturday so hopefully that'll spur me on a bit to lose weight as well as stay off alcohol. Felt a bit weird being the only guy there but I've been assured there's usually a few others who regularly attend. No "syns" planned for today :)

    Welcome along PurpleJay
You can have results or excuses, but not both.
Challenge - be 14 Stone BY XMAS!

Great - you're on the list! Cathy will be along laters to sign you up for the annual challenge.

    Good Luck!

And so say all of us!!:)

Although we're all on here because we knew we were drinking too much there are lots of reasons to be motivated. Personally it's the calories that help me most. Of course I want to be healthy and save money but it's the idea of regaining the weight I lost that drives me.:o I knew that no amount of healthy food and exercise would do it unless I cut back on drinking so I started on here first then moved on to Slimming World. :)

I'm sure all the women will treat you gently fatrab.:) The plan is designed to include syns (short for the synergy of healthy foods and treats). SW recommend daily treats but many of us save them up for weekends or occasions. It depends whether you can cope with deferred gratification!;)

    No drinking here today.

1/10 AFDs please Shaggy and 1/4 for the SNC.

  • Thanks for the welcome.

Money is another motivator for me as adding up my spends for August was an eye opener - £66 all at home and I was on holiday for the last week.

I have been going to slimming world since Jan 17 but have been stuck for a while so decided to save my pennies. Also I am struggling to get/stay since H left and school hols so not getting the support anyway. I do well on it though when my head is in the right place. Will rejoin aftdr Xmas if I struggle to loose on my own. About 6 men go to our group and usually 2-4 stay. Good luck with it Fatrab.
