the funny thing is that thankfully it isn't on display from any view point - although we can hear everything as if it was in our own garden but it is hidden behind a 6ft fence , both gardens are pretty big but this just happens to be at the closest point possible , just to clarify the hum isn't the problem - the outboard motors are ....

We got a hot tub included with a house we bought when we lived in Australia. I think I lasted about two power bills before I switched it off and drained it ;)

They are expensive to run, the chemical management is annoying, and we got tired of it really quickly. Hopefully your neighbours are the same and it'll be on Gumtree within a few months.

Hot Tubs are cool, very relaxing and we spend a lot of time in the summer outside in ours.
We do how ever ensure we turn the bubbles off after 10pm.
They are not that expensive to run either in our experience.

*I suggest you either talk to them, make them aware of the noise it makes.
*ignore it and just put up with the odd 1/2 hour of noise.
*grow some high bushes/hedge to block their sun / or block the noise for your self.

We think we are good neighbours, although the tub does make noise, we also put up with the neighbours dogs barking, and grandkids screaming when they come round.
So a little give and take is best, but have a chat.

Your not alone. the situation sounds remarkably similar to our neighbour's hot tub in the rear garden.

Droning pump, music played by hot tub users to drown out the pump noise, having to talk at a level to be heard over the pump/music, counting loudly during exercise in hot tub.

Theirs is covered by a dome tent draped with pretty lights visible above the garden fence.

All within 10 feet of the lounge patio doors, must be annoying for our downstairs neighbour (maisonette) who's garden/property is right next door as its all clearly audible from our bedroom upstairs.

In the summer for them its windows closed and garden out of bounds in the evenings while the tub is in use.

It does drown out the multitude of caged squawking birds that the hot tub neighbours keep as well though :)

Fortunately our garden is on the other side and living room at the front.

Maybe you can ask them to move it so its not so close to your property?

I think that if you live in a reasonably populated area then you must expect some noise from fellow neighbours when in the garden.

I also suspect that they have no idea that their hot tub is causing issues...afterall it's a fair distance from their property and so they wont hear the hum unless you tell them about it.
I also suspect that whist they are using it they dont really hear the noise either they or it is making....nor can they probably see the view from your windows when you look out onto them in the tub.

A little bit of gentle pointing out of these things might make them rethink that they are on full view of the neighbours both in sight and sound!

Although dont assume this hot tub wont be used in the winter too....a cold night and a warm bath under the stars can be attractive to some....as can the kids pool and sleep over parties...

We don't have a huge garden nor do our surrounding neighbours...but a few years back a near new neigbour bought a layz....and only kept it for a year or two once they realised that they were possibly putting themselves a little too much on show around the surrounding area.

Why do you think the hot tub is where it is?

Maybe ask if they would relocate it to between the flagpole and the jacked up Escort Sri?

I didn't see if you answered about the ownership of the fence, but if it's yours I'd be tempted to remove some panels, dig a nice wee bed and plant some 6" privet saplings. It'll be a hedge, eventually, but will they want to skud about in their trunks in full view 10ft from you?

Serious answer- it's a general noise issue and you need to politely let them know it's a nuisance before overthinking it.

that really made me laugh :D :rotfl:

I think the tub is where it is - right at the bottom of their garden : which I presume for them is an out of the way location , I think the comments regarding them not being aware of how the location impacts us are probably near the truth ...

As hard as it is to have that chat, the longer you leave it, the harder it will be to have - "Well its been like that for 6 months, why have you not said anything so far?"
