I've just been fined £275 by the BBC for watching YOUTUBE. I had no idea you needed a TV licence for a computer to watch other peoples home made movies. I've also been told that you need a TV licence for a DVD player by the courts, but DVDs are purchased and paid for, why do people need to pay again? I'M STUNNED!

You don't need a TV licence to watch someone's home-made videos on youtube."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

This has been discussed many times, both here and in the Techie Stuff board. I seem to remember that you need a license to WATCH or RECORD a TV transmission AS IT IS BEING BROADCAST. (And indeed the link from visidigi confirms this). You do NOT need a license simply to USE a PC or DVD player, even if it is to watch PRE-RECORDED stuff. (In this case the link is misleading).
OP - WHO fined you? The BBC can't fine you. Were you taken to court?0 -
something does not ring true with the 1st post as said you dont get fined for watching youtube by BBC for home made movies0

How would the BBC even know if someone was watching youtube videos?
The only way that they could trace someone would be if they logged on to the BBC iplayer website and their IP address was logged then their details were obtained from the ISP concerned.0 -

You do if you want to watch live programs on Iplayer. I believe they live stream all channels now as well as doing catchup0
