    I hate vertical blinds

I don't have anything other then curtains at my windows but then Im a long way off the road, no one would be passing close enough to see in

When I lived in London where houses were on top of each other I got nets and voiles. Easy to wash and if kept white they look lovely as long as you don't go Ott with a pattern IMO

The one thing I would say in favour of vertical blinds is that they are useful in terms of being able to leave them closed during the day, it doesn't look so odd as closed curtains. When it gets dark in the winter and you have a light on a timer in the room, it makes a house look more occupied if you're out than a light on a timer in a room with undrawn curtains. We had vertical blinds in a previous house and we always left the middle ones in the lounge bay window closed for this purpose.

I don't understand why people moved away from net curtains, they have always been the traditional window covering in homes for privacy. If they get dirty, you just take them down and wash them carefully. They are much less hassle than trying to clean these modern slatted blinds which hold onto every ounce of dust or pet hair. Slatted blinds are so easily broken.

Net curtains don't have to look grannyish. There are plenty of modern styles out there. Mine are like plain voile, with some horizontal stripes. Not quite the same as these, but the closest I could find:

Voile is OK, but takes away a lot more light than nets.
