Handelsbanken AB (UK) latest details

I saw an article recently, and was prompted to ask about opening an account. They have a branch only 6 miles from me.

Staff very helpful, but website less so. In particular it does not make it clear that they charge £50/month for a standalone current account. Wife & I have investments of £360K plus pension scheme around £160K, but do not want to move these.

I currently pay just £2/month for a Reward Current a/c with Child & Co (RBS posh brand). Also have free accounts with Nationwide and TSB paying 5% and other benefits elsewhere.

HB appears to be very much a "Private" Bank, which I do not need, and I have abandoned any move to it.

There doesn't seem to be anything about the charge to run an account on their website, and I think the reason is that each customer has an individual tariff of charges. I think the branch staff that you spoke to should have made it clear that there would be charges, even if they couldn't say how much, but unless you have a need for the facilities Handelsbanken offer then I can't see much point for a normal retail banking customer.

I use Handelsbanken as my main wage account. I don't pay £50 a month though!

I like them because all decisions are made in house by the bank manager and the charge card has a very good rate if you use it overseas.

They are an old school bank - when we remortgaged with them it take a bit of time to do. However, I can say their customer service is excellent.

Then how much do you pay? If it's not a secret.

I once asked them if they charge a monthly fee and they said I need to visit my nearest branch and speak to them.

Looks like a fee of up to £50 - could be all the way down to £0 by that reading!

Because I was interested but didn't want to create a new thread about HB if I can use an existing thread. After all, a year old thread is not so old.
