I had a few bonfires but haven't had my annual returning of the direct sunlight one as it's far too windy & wet.

Going over East to get some haylage & feed & general shop today. Still tickles me that we drive right across to the other coast. About half way over you know that you are entering East as the landscape changes and you get ploughed fields and stuff.

I didn't wait for the wind; I had my Choille Day bonfire yesterday :D.... about a week late, but it was dry enough at last. Took ages to get up to temperature in the still air and dark fell by the time I'd cleared two of the four piles of hedging removed so far. It's a start anyway. Meanwhile, DW has been clearing the garden out, as everything's shooting, far too early really.

Had to pause things a bit last week when toothache struck. Apparently, a big one suddenly died, so now it's root canal work; either a private specialist at £600 or take my chance on the NHS for £65. :( The difference is more than a cement mixer and a car service, so I'm going economy, but the success rate is only 80%.:undecided

DD2 flew out to India again last Friday to meet more of the family and buy stuff for Wedding2 in June. So far, they've only done sight-seeing. Seems a little warmer out there.....

Rained yet again & low cloud yurk.

Hope the dental thing got resolved Dave.

Spent a while getting glue off some glazed doors upstairs - what a thrilling job that was.....not. The masking tape was left on too long.

We are thinking of a wood burner upstairs & would welcome any recommendations. I've before but it's taken so long to get to this stage I forget what everyone said. They all seem to have this log storage thing underneath which I'm not that smitten on but OH likes them.

Just put in some halogen bulbs that give off a definate orange glow - described on the box as a soft white light and for decoration only Made In China - They are going back to Screw Fix next week. OH bought them - he can take them back in!

No resolution to the tooth thing till February, choille, but the odd thing is it's not hurting at all. She drilled it out without any anaesthetic though:eek:, so it must be dead. I guess they filled it with an antibiotic paste or similar, to kill the bugs. ;)

Wood burners are usually worth spending a little more on. Different brands have their supporters, but ours is a good old made in Deb'n Woodwarm and very few people complain about them. Great control, no messy glass and efficiency is good. This misspelled link takes you to our fire, but the web site is a good one, giving people's real experiences:

    https://www.whatstove.co.uk/woodwarm-pheonix-firegem-5kw-reviews

Just remember every location is different, as is every flue, so some people's gripes may be the fault of the fitting and not the fire.

Here at the ranch, we've started to tidy up and draw a scale plan even though the re-landscaping of the front garden is some way off. We started by removing demolished concrete blocks from the front garden and placing them tidily on new ground cover in our yard below the barn:A where they should have gone 3 years ago! :o

Also, we've turned our attention to the out-of-control eucalyptus at the front and so far managed to cut out the tops from 2 of the 3 major stems. I think I might need to tie the last one to the van. After that, we just need to cut down 8 or 9 feet of those big stems and then tackle the main trunk....which is wider than the chain saw bar.....:( Probably a job for Pete!

Good result on Gumtree today. Flogged the shower screen we've found it very hard to sell due to its size:j and DW managed to sell a towel rail to go with it, which I was due to advertise next week. :D

Thanks for that Dave. Yes, the messy glass thing is annoying. I can't keep the stove/boiler glass clean in the kitchen which is supposed to have an air wash thing but I can't seem to keep the glass from smoking up. I do like our boiler stove though apart from that.
We shall have a look at the place we got that from and see what they have. Yes, I agree about price - it's worth getting a good one as a cheap one will be just that...cheap.

Good with the tooth Dave - I have an appointment on Friday which I'm not looking forward to - although the dentist an Indian guy is very nice and jolly it isn't something I'm looking forward to.

Heavy showers on & off today & a little snow that didn't lie but really cold tonight.

Been listing on the bay tonight but not much selling - so hardly owt to wrap.

well the weather is hit and miss here !
sun then drizzle then rain ... repeated daily

there is land that was the estates shoot around me but the last 2 years has been taken over by a consortium of 5/6 blokes ... local bigwigs that don't seem to be very skillful [polite] !
it starts with hearing the beaters in the woods , then a few shots so I watch from my windows ... pheasants fly onto OUR land [ me and 2 neighbours combined 30 acres] ... guns are stood in field other side of me ... I watch cos if ONE shot is fired towards/over our land there will be trouble ...
I was literally rolling with laughter when about 4 pheasants flew literally over their heads and a volley of shots sounded and not one bird fell ...
im pleased but what stuck up tw*ts we breed here in the country !!

ive been clearing my end room today , well overdue ! how can I stop myself shoving stuff in there "for now" and now turns into months !!
I can see the floor now tho ! I must crack on and decorate so I don't WANT to mess it up again ...

well im back to working tomorrow , going to sussex to pick up friend on Wednesday and airport runs at the end of the week ...

keep warm , keep dry and keep safe peeps xx

We have two resident pheasants that have been with us since about last November. They're perfectly safe so long as they stay with us and the chap next door in our wee valley. :A

Speaking of the neighbour, he's asked me to email the evidence I've collected about the boundary. I'll do that, but as it's him who has the gripe, maybe it ought to be t'other way round? He's being very coy about the documentary evidence he claimed to have in his deeds, but I'll reserve judgement until he actually shows his hand. ;)

    Got another tooth playing-up now.....grrr!:(

Alfie - shooters here but for deer at the moment mainly. Met two the other day coming off the hill in an Argo that had burst a pipe. I thought the dog would go daft as they had two hinds in the back but he just eyed the men up and down as if they were beneath his contempt. Quite funny really - in a way.
Good for you cracking on Alfie - I don't know where you get the energy from. Takes me to do the basics these days. It's the freezing weather I think.
Snow going over East - roads a disgrace locally. A car in a ditch - still there on the way home.

Dave sorry about the tooth - that's the way it goes sometimes.
Dave can you not view his deeds at the Land registry. I'd be tempted to hang on until he's come up with something. As you say - T'is him that has the gripe.

Went to pick up a prescription & got told I'd have to go back in February as that's when it would be in. I said I needed it now, so they russled up an alternative. I was not too impressed as it was as if they wanted me just to go away. I stood my ground as I do need it then the woman said that the list is getting longer and longer of what they can't get hold of.
    I wonder what's going on.

They have sort of stopped you being able to do that now. I got an alternative to some eye drops I use & OH got an alternative to some tablets he has to take - I wonder if they are going for cheaper generic stuff. I don't know what's going on. I know that Highland NHS is in a great deal of debt. I don't know if it's related or not.
