Hi all, following all of the help I have received from this website I thought it would be nice to give you my claims stories so far to spur you on. I have had some good success with my PPI claims (which I have posted in the relevant feed) and I am hopeful that I will have good news with these claims too. All I can say is do not give up, for the sake of a letter and maybe a few phone calls any chance of a refund is worth it. I would recommend that you send all letters in by recorded delivery and also keep a note of the dates the banks should be replying to you by as if they don't chase them up!

Firstly I sent in a SAR request to both the Halifax and the Natwest in February. I received an acknowledgement off both to advise that I will have my info. within the correct timescale.
I had my Halifax info. last week and sent off the letter claiming back all highlighted charges due to financial difficulty. I am just waiting on their reply now.
I have not had my info back from the Natwest yet but they do have until 20th April and I have called them and they are just collating it so fingers crossed.
(I no longer use either bank any more but have been my main account within the last 10 years).

I have also since sent in a SAR request to my old bank Lloyds TSB last week and am just awaiting confirmation from them that they are looking in to my request.

If anyon ehas any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated or if you have any questions that I can help with please let me know.

I will let you know when I have any further updates :)

Received two letters today, one offering me £3006 and one offering £249, for my two accounts: "Having reviewed your financial situation I am happy to make an exceptional offer"
I can hardly believe it and am still shaking! Needless to say I will accept and should have the money in my account next week.
I first applied in September, Grateful thanks to Martin, and Money Saving Expert for making this possible!:j :j :j :j :j

    Hi there.

How do you find out how much you owed in the first place?

And also is there any risk they may charge you for their time if you lose the case or battle with them?

    Hi there.
You realise the post you are quoting is from 2009? The Banks have rather changed their attitude since then!

I found an old statement for a credit card which I'd paid off in 2004 and noticed that I'd been paying £25 'Accident and Sickness' per month on top of my 'normal' repayment. I contacted MBNA by telephone (I found the dedicated PPI number on their website) and spoke to a very nice chap who asked if I wished to make a claim and then said they would send me a letter in a few days. I got the letter, which told me they were looking into my claim, followed by another letter a couple of weeks later to say that my claim had been upheld and that they would be repaying me £3,589.93! My jaw literally dropped when I read it! The cheque arrived a couple of days later. One phone call, no forms to fill in, one very nice cheque, which covers the cost of my recently-installed bathroom, and all because I hadn't got round to shredding some very old statements for a card I'd forgotten I'd had! Thank you, MBNA!:T

I reclaimed £500 in bank charges for my son, from Nat west.
He had no income and went over his overdraft, with one phone call they cancelled them! I had written out a template letter, and included that he suffers from depression I used it a s a script. we went to a natwest bank and used their phone, as he had no phone! If he hadn't before it would have been enough to make him!
The lady was lovely. I did clear the original overdrawn amount of £100, he now has an account without and overdraft facility. Is still strapped for cash, but was sooo relieved, as it was increasing daily.

Hi All.Recently i claimed for over 4500 from santander using the hardship route(redundancy, financial difficulty etc) and about a week ago they refunded £150 worth of charges back into my account.i then received a letter saying the usual standard"while we sympathise" etc and an offer to refund this months charges of £175 in order for me to break the cycle.I was wondering if i should give them a call and make them an offer of a figure i would be happy to accept,in view of the fact that i am in arrears of nearly £3000 on my mortgage because of trying to juggle finances.
Does anybody think this would be a wise move?
Or should i accept the (measly) offer and continue to rack up the charges.I have found a job at last, although it is only part time and wouldn't cover bills and charges,or clear my arrears.

    Any ideas anyone? Please

Not sure how far I will get but I already have my details from a recent SAR to the Halifax so I have written a letter asking for all my charges plus interest :rotfl:as detailed below.
I believe that these charges contributed to my situation of having to use CCCS and a DMP, total will be for around 10 years, already 5 years in though.
For the sake of a letter and a stamp Im going to give it a try, keep you posted!
