So they played fair with the estimate, but they are charging twice the asking price and selling a voltage optimizer which is of no benefit to domestic users.
The hot water controller - did they name the product?
Is it the owl intuition with the pv add on (splitter cable and extra clamp) else that will just measure your energy usage, which you can do using an enviro jobbie from fleabay for £15?

As everyone else says, run, don't walk away!
There are much better deals to be had.

A suggestion - using google maps (or whatever satellite mapping app), find your house, take a screen shot, crop it to just give your property and post it up here.
Then the usual wizards here will be able to make suggestions on your roof etc?

    Good luck!
4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.

Thanks for the advice guys, that's the cancellation email + scanned form sent to Project Solar UK.

@theboylard : The quote document named the hot water controller simply as "Hot water Dr. controller". The OWL Intuition looks as though it is just a meter / monitor.

They have come back and offered to reduce the quote by the cost of the voltage optimiser but still supply it. Just not enough of a reduction !

You're caught in a tricky time. The subsidy is just too low for anything but the best location and price.

The prices will hopefully fall, but the leap from 12p subsidy to 4.32p is just too big at the moment.

Maybe just be upfront and say it needs to be £4.5k* or it just won't work for you, and whilst you'd like to have PV and are willing for them to come back to you in the future, you just can't afford to do it at any higher price.

    Just checking returns:
    FiT 3,470 @ 4.32p = £150
    Exp (50%) 1,735 @ 4.91p = £85
    Leccy savings (guess) = £120
    Total = £355

    *£355 / £4.5k = 8% (Gross)

Also keep an eye out for additional support in Scotland. Nothing specific yet, and it may only be for community projects, but the SNP have been talking up solar recently:

Solar to ‘hit the ground running’ in Scotland after SNP election win

[Edit: And a bit more today - Solar set for growth in Scotland says SNP energy spokesperson]

@Martyn1981 Interesting reading.... but now I think I should be waiting to see if the SNP make grants available to take some of the cost out of the installation (and my wife wants solar panels installed NOW since she's been convinced of the benefits ! lol)

Wives are usually right, and from a Green & Ethical board point of view, she's probably correct. But this site is 'MoneySaving' and unfortunately your high quote would probably take the whole 20 years to recover your investment, also consider lost interest (admittedly low) and probably a replacement inverter at some point wiping out 2 years worth of income.

    God what a depressing post!

Some good news, the FiT rate only drops to 3.55p by 2019, so if prices get forced down, it should become more economic. There is currently an EU minimum price on Chinese panels (to protect 2 German manufacturers) and there is already a 25% price difference. Since panels represent about 30% of a domestic install, then that's nearly 8% that could go if the EU removes the ruling. And maybe, just maybe the SNP will do something to add some additional support.

But, at the end of the day, you need a [STRIKE]bigger boat[/STRIKE] lower price! :(

Or of course if we cease to be bound by EU rulings. Though you might have to get the install done quickly before the SNP manage to rejoin !
