    check your v5 (log book) and see if it marry's up with your last mot cert if not you may have been sold a dodgy car assuming you have a kosher v5 direct from dvla

    Although there should be several stickers or plates riveted to the chassis with the VIN printed on, the VIN should be stamped into the body as well.

    I believe it's stamped into the floor under the front of the right hand front seat, as is the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1 as the are really the same car under the skin.

    Push this seat back all the way and it should be stamped into the cross member running parallel with the front edge of the seat.
    You might have to wiggle the carpet back a bit, though there should be a flap in it.

    I seem to think around 2015 the model changed slightly so it might be stamped into the bulkhead above the washer cap.

    Who is going to remove the windscreen, cut out the chassis number and refit the screen?

    Engine number is not likely to be easily accessible either, so cutting that out wont be a 5 minute job.

    Then the number stamped into various body panels.

    The car sounds ‘dodgy’ and the tester must’ve taken the chassis number from their job card, not the vehicle. So if this is the case, then it’s the tester’s fault. Any vehicle with no VIN is dodgy to say the least.

    DVSA do stress not to use job cards etc to record the chassis/VIN number and to ONLY take it from the vehicle. If they’re all missing, then it’s impossible the tester followed correct protocol.

    Try calling DVSA on 0300 123 9000 and explain to them and see if they can best advise perhaps?! It might be a DVLA matter instead though.

    What make and model is it?

    An OBD code scan should reveal the VIN if you have the right scanner.

    Thanks Goudy, you did what 3 mechanics couldn't - it's exactly where you said. Now to take it back to Halfords to get them to re-dp the MOT!

    Mostly VIN is present where the windshield meets the dashboard near the driving seat. If you don't find it then it could be a stolen vehicle.
