When donating to charity, which charity organisation do you donate to?

I wanted to ask fellow money saver's, if you decide to donate unwanted personal possessions to charity, what makes you decide which charity shop to use?

For example, you may use a charity shop with the nicest smile, easy to park near, or is the place you also use to purchase things?
Do you choose a chain, or a local area charity store?
Is the store you use chosen because it is close to work/home, or near the other stores you use?
Do you choose, base on the subject area eg heart, children etc...?

  • 1. Where my friend volunteers
    2. Nearest the bus stop (if it's heavy)
    3. Where I think they'll get the best price for it
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Depends. When it was my parents things:

    1. Easy to park (because there's likely to be a lot)
    2. Where I wouldn't be likely to visit again
    3. Cause I'm happy to support, or that they would have supported

When it's my own stuff, it's

    1. Easy to park (because there's likely to be a lot)
    2. Where I've already set up Gift Aid
    3. Charity I'm already supportive of

But show me a charity shop, and I'll go in and have a browse! Was surprised to discover one I was not aware of the other day ...
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I always donate to the local hospice.......but will shop in them all.
  • 1. Where I support/giftaid
    2. Where they seem to generate income via giftaid - some charities seem to be better at letting me know how much they've raised and also selling the stuff in the first place
    3. Sometimes one offs because I'm feeling particulary sorry for that group, for example, Crisis (homelessness)

Love a good rummage in a charity shop - best item found so far was a silk DKNY skirt for £15 - Cancer research London - was a bit expensive but quality item
