    Maybe try pollinating by hand (with a brush or similar) to chivvy the process along.?

    Gave up with the strawberrys - they showed no sign of any quantity of fruit
    Instead - I planted over 100 spring onion seeds - in a 12" square container

    They are thriving - have started picking already (just over a month)
    Surprisingly - they appear to like being close to their neighbours (1 inch spacing)

    My strawberries have done nothing this year,i have blamed the weather,birds,the squirrels and the fact we live " up north ",been a terrible year weather wise.
    ITS NOT EASY TO GET EVERYTHING WRONG ,I HAVE TO WORK HARD TO DO IT!

    I live in the far north of Scotland and have had a bumper crop this year- second year plants in a trug.

    Plants are all cut back now.

    Mine were first year and finished now. How do you cut back please. I have runners that I might use to produce more strawberry plants but not sure what to do with the non runner foliage.

    I too have a question about runners. Mine are all in pots etc in and around the patio. In previous years I have pinned runners down into smaller pots of compost spaced on the patio around the existing pots , leave for several weeks, and then cut away from parent plant. My question is.....can the runners be cut away from parent first, then plant up the plantlets into pots, and then put pots out of the way until rooted etc?
