living with a chronic condition (part 4) 6th Sep 09 at 5:17 PM
    Welcome to the new thread.

This thread is for the discussion about living with fibrmyalgia and connected benefits and moneysaving issues.

Discussions about pure benefits should be taken to Benefits & Tax Credits
Family issues should go to MoneySaving in Marriages, Relationships & Families
Special occasion chat should go to Special Occasions & Celebrations
general chat needs to go to the The Money Savers Arms.

Many thanks for your co operation.

My wording on this is terrible and I apologise-I am open to suggestions on how to start the opening post so that newbies can see what is appropriate to post here and which discussions will be moved.

Wow!! There's lots happened since last night!

raeh, I certainly understand how you feel. There have been times where I have posted something and it has been ignored. I do know though that it was never on purpose and things do get lost in the stream of conversation as you said. I'm really glad you said something as I was wondering why you weren't posting and I'm so glad it wasn't because you were too ill.

As pcl said, I did suggest opening another site for us to generally chat and I did open one but a lot of you thought it would be too much to keep up with another thread along with this one so it has remained unused. I thought it would be good as it was a private site so people could feel more secure in discussing things without fearing a friend/relative would stumble upon the post and cause problems for them.

Anyhoo, I'm not quite sure what we can and can't discuss here now but on the subject of shoes........

My friend has MBT's and swears by them for her back. I was put off by the price and live in my Birkenstock sandals for comfort. Not sure how I'm going to handle winter though. Maybe I should buy some of those socks that are like gloves so I can still wear them!

I agree with Soolin about re-naming the thread. I titled the site I set up with the name Chronic Conditions as there are so many of us with different and similar illnesses and some people may think they can't post if the condition they suffer from isn't Fibro.

Right, that's my two penneth worth. And I shall close by saying that I hope no-one disappears/stops posting. I feel like you're all my friends now and would hate to lose any of you!

Discussing shoes that assist in the daily ability to get around or to lessen discomfort is exactly what this thread is about. I really don't see any point in singling out posts from the last thread that were very OT, I think we are allable to understand what this board is about .

I'm still happy though to help set up a basic chat thread for the Arms.

Yeah, I think that sounds good Soolin. Lets see what the others think.

I think having a thread in the arms is the only sensible solution really for those of us who have become friends and want to chat. Also for those who want to join us too. Perhaps maybe providing this info in the start of this thread would be a good idea to help others find it? Have you already suggested that? Sorry if you have, there were lots of posts to catch up on!

We could still have another off site thread too if everyone else wanted a bit more privacy alongside posting in the arms so we didn't become too exclusive. Does that make sense? I'm tired!

Now looking at MBTs with avaricious eyes.

How can I justify this purchase - I already have ten pairs of shoes/trainers?

Everyone will be wishing they had let me buy the 3 handbags I wanted to get on Friday. Serves them right for dragging me out of the shop. Especially as I had gazed longingly at 3 pairs of beautiful platforms that I could never wear and all they said was they would look good on one foot as the plaster cast is being applied on the other...
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

You can justify it by the fact that it will ease some discomfort for you and make life a little easier for you.

jojo Go for it! (Hi by the way). I find it hard to justify spending money on friparies but when it's something that may reduce my pain and has the added back up of being recommended by someone else in a similar position who has tried them, I wouldn't hesitate.

You can then keep all your other trainers for best!
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break

Hi, I have ben away to a wedding and came back to find you had all disappeared!

Regarding the government plans to axe DLA etc. I have a mobility car now with my mobility allowance but use the care part generally to live eg food etc. The help I have had at home from the council has been a perching stool, and hand rails in kitchen, on stairs and in bathroom. If they did away with the cash in my hand I don't think I would get anything in the form of help at home.

If you all go away to another thread can someone let me know as I do become very confused about how to find my way around here. I am sure the drugs make me worse in the mornings. And it is still morning as I have just got up.

Soolin maybe could you change the title [again .. sorry] to say fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions then people wont be confused as to where the fibro thread is?

Unity im so sorry you have swine flu typical though to catch it at hospital. I was told i was a prime candidate for it being in a school but to be honest i dont seem to catch very much at all? Hope you feel better very soon xx

Echinacea - Can anyone tell me whether taking this is a good idea or not? I used to take this regularly once the end of summer appeared, but I have read somewhere that for those whose immune systems actively work against them, it isn't a good idea to take this. This leaves me in a quandary as I am coughing like mad, with a headache, temperature and runny nose and don't know what to take .

    Time for another Glayva
